The bat phones must be ringing tonight.
How soon can one of the contingent get in line at the venue to get the rail?
Should I wear my Oscilloscope t-shirt, or will the BBFC dress code call for something different?

I think it will much more than a instrumental show, atleast that is what the latest news letter said.
ok, to clarify (claro); we are doing two types of shows this summer, "regular" shows and "gala events". (See deffinitions below).
Tickets for some of our "regular" shows in the USA go on sale soon (see below for details) -- Tickets for our "gala event" shows will be going on sale later.
THE REGULAR SHOW is, well you know how we do, hip hop, hardcore, instrumental, weird hippie spaced out rock jams... all that type of stuff. These shows are for the average meathead, so you don't have to dress up, though we encourage you to.
THE GALA EVENTS will be in smaller spots, more exclusive, more intimate. this will be more like quality time, our time, just you and the band sitting by a fire on a tropical beach late at night being serenaded with love songs. these shows are for people that are into our weird stuff, so if you want to get weird together, this is your call. these shows will be based around the instruments. some songs will have vocals, others will be instrumental. BUT if you'd like to come to one of these shows, then dress to impress, wear a suit, a tie, a dress, a gown or whatever you feel dressed up in... AND PLEASE leave your cargo shorts, birkenstocks and t-shirts at home, this is not that kind of party.

Got my tickets today. so I am assuming that this is a regular show and not a gala event? Haven't missed a show in philly since lollapalooza '94. In all honesty, I wouldn't mind this being a gala event. on the waterfront, sun setting behind us, feet up, frosty beverage in hand, dressed to the nines...couldn't think of a better way to spend the evening.

Ahh Well, maybe next time. I don't know how this tour is gonna work, but usually, they start out in Europe, get the set tight, then head over to the US for some smaller venue shows (like last time they did they Y100 feztival, then later did their own show at the Center). Maybe this is a warm up show and they will come back to do a Gala show. Still might get dressed up though.

Word, that would be the day wouldn't it.
As for the Electric Factory show, that was included. 1998, if I remember correctly, got to peep the new tracks a month a head of time (Hello Nasty). Announced that day, wanna talk about a mad scramble. Hands down one of the best shows of all time. Would love to see a gala event at the Tower Theater. I've decided to say F it, gonna get dressed up, gala event or not. I know some there wouldn't understand, but that's when we can separate the Wheat from the Chaff, eh? There should be a separate section for those who go gala event stylez. Nice brown suit with black puma suedes. Extra Wide tie. If anyone wants to go shop for a suit, drop me a line.

Would love to see a gala event at the Tower Theater.
The Tower is bigger than Festival Pier, I'm thinking smaller and more intimate. The TLA on South St. or Grape St. in Manayunk would be the ideal spots. I saw GZA, Wolfmother, and The Stooges at the TLA within the last year and love that venue. TLA is all GA, the Tower is all seats which is another negative.

Hope it isn't like 90 degrees. Aug. in Philly can get kinda humid, right? Wonder if the Beasties are going to continue to wear the whole suit, tie and Fedora outfit all summer? It's gotta be a bit much.

true the pier is smaller, but the tower has panache, an ambiance, a history. I saw BB king there and it was pretty intimate. if anything, the TLA would be a good venue. But I see what you are saying about the Manayunk clubs, they are really intimate.

Any guests in the house?
Were the boys in top form? Any particularly tight or sucky songs?
Did they make Pooty breakdance?
There were no special guests. To be honest, it was great not having to wait through an opening act. No matter how good an opener they could have had, everyone is there to see the Beasties. It was a very humid 95 degrees, combined with the crush of the crowd and the moshing (yes, there was a good-sized mosh pit that formed about 5 people behind the rail) having to endure an opener would have just drained more energy from everyone. There was a crackhead that started singing Mo-town songs while we were standing inline. He was our opening act. I almost lost it when he started singing "The Gambler".
Yes, the boys were in top form. Everyone in the band seemed to be having a ball. Off the Grid & Shambala were two of my favorite performances of the night. They had some insane spacey-type sounds going on with the stereo effect on Shambala. Pooty made a remark about how much better & tighter "Off the Grid" sounded since he saw them in Seattle a few months ago. Money Mark had his own one-man mosh pit on stage during Heart-Attack Man. Every song was On-Point, no restarting any songs or flubbing lyrics of any kind. MMM's cutting up "Communication Breakdown" was great. Mike D and a few of the others were sharing a glass of Champagne when they came out for the encore.
Pooty was in E.F.F.E.C.T. Money Mark came out after the last song and personally handed him a setlist. Yauch came over to the front of the stage, kneeled down to talk to Pooty and wished him a Happy Birthday right before Sabotage.
It's pure insanity to think we get to do it all over again today. It's all kind of just sinking in. There were these three 16y.o. kids that we were standing inline with that had never seen the Beasties, they were asking me about what to expect and such since I told them I had seen them numerous times. After the crowd started thinning out after the show was over, we bumped into them again and they were blown away. They couldn't stop smiling and saying "Awesome". They were there at 4 in the afternoon with us and they said it was definitely worth the wait. The security guards we were talking to at the rail were in awe of the quality of the Beasties equiptment. I guess they see a lot of bands.

Great show! I really enjoyed it. Great to see some surprises for me like Egg Raid on Mojo, Posse in Effect, Paul Revere, Tough Guy, etc. They looked to be having a good time (I'd say Adrock and Mike D were having a better time than MCA). Money Mark was jumping all over the stage. When he was introduced, he got up on his keyboard stand and almost fell off. Mix Master Mike was pretty much all-business - he hardly said 10 words all night. It was funny to see him during Off the Grid and other instrumentals. They gave him some kind of percussion instrument to shake. During the encore, a group of fans were chanting for the Philadelphia Eagles (which is typical for Philly). Adrock said: "What are you all saying. I don't like what I'm hearing. Oh, the Eagles. Is that like NFL? That's cool.) Hahaha funny.
In my humble opinion, I think the instrumentals bogged down the concert a bit. I'm not a hater or anything, but the energy really got sucked out of the crowd. I looked around and most I could see looked bored. I personally didn't mind - I'm glad I got to see their full repertoire.
All in all, great show! They're still in great form.
I heard pooty got props from the band. Great to know that they are paying attention to the audience and taking the time to give shout outs to their loyal fans!

Pooty was in E.F.F.E.C.T. Money Mark came out after the last song and personally handed him a setlist. Yauch came over to the front of the stage, kneeled down to talk to Pooty and wished him a Happy Birthday right before Sabotage.

I was on the rail and was mezmerized for a minute by the lights bouncing off the giant disco ball swirling around and I turned around to see what it looked like against crowd. I saw many people dancing and waving their arms in the air. I was actually surprised at how many people seemed totally into the instrumental stuff, from my point of view of the crowd.

They played "Posse In Effect"?
I just want to mention this to a specific girl at the show last night cuz she almost definitely has to post here. Every time you held up your "Hi! I'm Mrs. Yauch" or whatever sign, you do know you had about 50 people wanted to snap you neck behind you, right?. I tried to help for a little saying "Ey, she's just a kid" while others behind me were saying "I don't give a fuck! He's not even lookin at her!" I laughed cuz I understood dude's point. You held that bitch up for minutes at a time. Anyway, good thing security came and took it cuz heads were getting legitimately pissed.
Oh, I drove from Pittsburgh to the show, saw the show, and drove back to Pittsburgh cuz I have no more vacation days at work. It was well worth it, though.

Oh yeah! You better believe it. I got a nice crappy video of it on my cell phone for a memory of the concert. I think MCA pointed me out but not sure. I was like 10 rows back. He's like "this dude out there just held up his phone for the entire song." Hahaha. It was short though anyway.
I'm one who gets a bit annoyed when people hold up their phones the whole time, but I just had to do it.

Awesome show!!! I still can't get over it...I've been a hardcore fan since 98' and it was my first time seeing a full B-boys show and I was not dissapointed in the least.
I was a bit far back, but thats because I was in the breakdancing tent for awhile (I joined in for a bit, I had the Joker shirt on if anyone was in there too...I wanted to dance more, but I felt like the crew wanted the floor so I gave it to them).
I was in a good spot though, not many jerks, I had my own little area where I could dance and bop up and down...during the instrumentals I was pretty much the only one dancing in my area, but thats ok....also for the punk songs I was the only one throwing my hands up and singing along...but I loved it.
Can't wait for the Hammerstein show!

Great show! Was right up front for the entire set. During Super Disco Breakin, a mosh pit opened up next to me. Some big fat guy started shoving his weight around the pit. Some skinny guy with an Addidas sun visor blasted him across the circle. The big guy then punched sun visor in the face! Sun visor took the shot and laughed at him! It was awesome! After this, the big dude cowardly drifted from the pit. Big up to that skinny guy weaing the Addidas sun visor for making him look silly while keeping the peace! Show was incredible! You couldn't have asked for a better night at this tight venue.

just back from philly and it was a great show....for the hour I got to see it..
i took my 10 year old daughter, we were in the front of the line to get in, and we got on the rail. now this was her first REAL concert (not counting Hillary Duff and High School Musical live) and she's been listening to the BB's since she was born. I had warned her about the loudness (she's been to a Nascar race as well before which is louder)....but we lasted in the front for the first 2 songs...the assholes who went crazy really warned it for others with kids as well....so we moved back to the side, and then to the rear finally just to escape.....i think she was overwhelmed totally by the crazy people, etc. ...we cut out about an hour into it.
she had a pretty good time, she got to see them, she knew all the songs, but i think at age 10 she wasnt ready for an outdoor show....
but we did get some pretty good pics for the tme we were on the rail

Out the three Beastie Boys shows I've seen this was second best..ranking like this:
1. Norfolk, Virginia (Aug 18, 1992)
2. Philly (Aug 1, 2007)
3. San Diego (Sep 11, 2004)
I'll be seeing them at the VirginFest of meatheads so I probably won't get near the front for that. Like Suavee-Bolo said afterwards "that show blew away the Pageant Tour"...my man was not kidding. Hold up, I just got a txt from Pooty about the Gala Event..it was chill to meet some of the messageboard crew in person and standing in line pre-show and at The Abbaye. Made some friends I hope to see again in the near future. I've been to Philly about 5-6 times but that was the most Phun I had in Brotherly Love land out of all my trips. I was hopping on the ferry from Camden after taking over the battleship and I could hear Yauch's stand-up bass across the Delaware, rattling..I believe it was "Suco De Tangerina" during soundcheck amongst other TMU tracks. I'm still in awe of this great night. Props out to the messageboard crew. Steve OnPoint...did you post the pic of all us somewhere?
Oh, I got pics from the show right here: http://myspace.com/daveblev.....i'll see if i can upload elsewhere for those that don't have an account.
big ups to the crew for getting the little redneck meathead behind us kicked out..dude was annoying...what did he say something about his dick stinkin?
strange moment: Mike D telling everyone to say "everybody wants to get fucked up"...Adrock looked at him like "what the hell Mike?".
peace

It seems like they're settling into a standard set list for these larger concerts, with a different song thrown in here or there for variety. I don't blame them because it's been 3 years since the last proper US tour and fans apparently want to see their favorite songs, but there are a few songs I wish they would lose or position differently. It seems that they're going to only do a few instrumental songs, like on the 2004 tour, except that the instrumental songs are mixed into the show instead of grouped in the middle. I'm glad that those songs apparently went over well in Philadelphia. I worried that people would talk and go get a beer.
It will be interesting to see the setlist for the smaller so-called instrumental shows and whether they stick to the pattern established for those shows.

They could try a lot harder with their setlists (and not even play half of the unexplainably ridiiculous requests we put up on the MB).

I flew into Philly, stopped for some drinks with some friends and headed over to the spot.
I wish my plane was earlier because we got in way too late....THANKFULLY my man pooty and steve got me the hookup... sorry i wasnt able to meet up afterwards... i was bummed about that.
the show was dope, setlist was amazing, and it was great to be in the front with friends, and get a lil' props from Adrock.
it was mad hot, and i was one of the only fools who dressed up (i just cant leave the pink tie in the closet when seeing the boys)...
anyway, hot shit... good times, im still dead tired...was only in philly for less than 18 hours... now im back in Maine and ready for the Boston shows...
