...yeah, just a stream at MTV (http://www.mtv.com/music/the_leak/the_white_stripes/icky_thump/#), but still...

I've been listening to it on the drive to and from work, hoping it would start to grow on me. It's not bad...certainly better than the last one, but it kind of lacks any real standout tracks. I was actually feeling You Don't Know What Love Is, but I sort of realized later that it sounds a whole lot like Zeppelin's Your Time Is Gonna Come. And Conquest is just embarrassing to listen to in public. A Martyr...and Bone Broke are pretty good. Nothing else has really jumped out at me, though.

I've been avoiding listening until I buy the real thing but I pretty much agree with mickill.
I dig Little Cream Soda and I'm Slowly Turning into You as well as the ones he mentioned.

hey i'm somewhat new to the white stripes. my friend gave me Elephant a few weeks ago and i really enjoy the album. i've been reading up on some white stripes threads on this board and saw that you really like get behind me satan abcdefz, and i'm not sure at this point if i should get icky thump when it comes out or go to one of their previous albums, particularly their 2005 effort after reading up on it. any other recommendations? should i get icky thump? ive listened to this mtv stream and it sounds good for the most part, but i think maybe i should go back before going forward to really get accustomed to the band.. any help is appreciated

Get on their self-titled, "White Blood Cells" and "De Stijl" pronto!

If anyone's into vinyl, Icky Thump will be coming out in LP form (don't know the date) via Warner's new online specialty store, becausesoundmatters.com. (http://becausesoundmatters.com)
It's being mastered for high quality natural sound, instead of being overcompressed (google "loudness war") and being ruined with overboosted treble & bass like so many CDs nowadays --> because for some reason many music labels think louder music translates to bigger sales numbers; and so the music sounds better on $5 earbuds and low bitrate MP3 files.
The guy who mastered it and all the other albums sourced from analog master tapes, Steve Hoffman, explains how he did it. (http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=112807)
