This is my 1st father's day. We are having an open house which will prevent me from sleeping the entire day. I am excited to see what is in store.

I used to get my father Old Spice deodorant.........the funny thing is that he still talks to me.

My dad lives 600 miles away so it's hard to get him gifts. I'm getting him a card and a gift certificate to Cold Stone Creamery. Because seriously. Everyone loves ice cream.

Go get him an ice cream cake and have an embarrassing photo printed on the top.

Buy him something he has lost, that's what I did

My dad and I went fishing and he lost his multi-tool, so I got him a nifty nice new one (Winchester makes really nice affordable ones....better than Leatherman in my opinion)

Dad's are overrated, anyway.

Well, many are.

My Pops was my best man at my wedding. He was an only child and his Dad was an alcoholic. He decided he would be a good father. He is really supportive and a really good man.

I hate to hear stories of fathers leaving and not supporting their kids.

Oh, and I sent him 2 cards (one from me and one from his grandson) and I will give him a phone call like I do every Sunday night.

It was kind of funny Monday when I realized that this Sunday is Father's Day. I sent my biological shudder an e-mail last Friday, just to cover my bases and get it over with.

TOO SOON! TOO SOON!

Oops.

I dont get my dad anything. I don't know him that well. I am going to send him a card this year. Its really wierd going through all of the cards and trying to find one that doesn't say "You were always there for me" or "You're my inspiration" or "I'm thankful for all you taught me". Those things dont apply in my case.

I wish they'd make one that says "Yeah, this is awkward. You weren't around much for me growing up and I had to figure out a lot of stuff on my own, but you're still my dad and I am sending you a card because it seems like the right thing to do. Happy Father's Day."

That's why God invented e-mail. :D

I basically follow this pattern: 1) Hope he has a good Father's Day; 2) Hope he gets to do something nice; 3) Comment about the weather in his area; 4) and sign off.

The trick is remember ing Mother's Day and Father's Day at all. It's seriously so NOT on my radar. I usually have to see an accumulation of sales ads in the paper before it borrows up from my subconscious.

Thanks for the well wishes. It will be great to get back to my old stomping grounds. My son will be able to see his grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins on a regular basis.

It will be nice to have my old professional contacts and my wife has a great management position with her old company.

My wife keeps hinting about gift ideas. I was thinking about a PSP. Are they worth the money? I sat next to a kid watching a show on his PSP. I am not a big gamer but I do play poker. She might surprise me with a Wii. She mentioned it the other day and how it would be fun to play.

Uh, yeah. It was deliberately pretty sick.

The only thing that spoils it from being 100% sick is that some guys' wives actually do give the man a gift for Father's Day. So the connotation of "kids give Daddy presents" is a bit fudged. Otherwise, yeah -- 100% sick.

Just be prepared with that collect call if you start talking politics, yo. I mean, I was on the phone with my dad for a total of five minutes while I was in a situation in England. That shit cost me 35 USD.

The whole point of a collect call is that you think so much of them that you're asking them to pay to talk to you. So to spruce things up talk about the hot button issues in day to day life on the oppossing side. That way it will be memorable: Unless you only make that call once a year then you're seen as somewhat an asshole. That's when you shake things up by asking on his nickle is Cliff Burton better than Les Claypool. Questions you already know the answers to

Bob, the key to any Father's heart would be none other than good old fashioned pron. Loads of pron. DVD's mags and get the shit from the 70's where the ladies had the bushes and men had leg sideburns.
