nme reviewed the mix up today gave it 4/10.saying that you should buy their other albums unless your growing a beard?also saying that tt5b was underrated(yeah you don't say,i'm sure reviewers will be saying that about the mix up in 3 years).
this is the same magazine that will give 7/10 to some new shit indie band with album tracks that all sound the same.
paul's boutique got bad reviews in 89,check your head got bad reviews and as we all know so did to the five boroughs.
i just think the beastie boys are still ahead of our time and i would expect magazine reviewers would get that.

PB did not get bad reviews from my recollection. Or do you mean NME gave it a bad review?

Ha, 4/10. If I had to listen to it in review conditions, I wouldn't like it either.

hip hop connection and other rap mags at the time, this is when the beasties were cosidered as a rap act.they got slagged off big time and it really annoyed me at the time.

in generaly, critics-wise, the reviews for TT5B were pretty good, quite a few excellent. i think the mix-up will struggle with critics, particulary those who aren't beasties fans as it's kinda a real good oppourtunity to go in close-minded and dismiss the record, and consequently the band aswell (perhaps as 'past it').

it's an album that needs to be listened to though, and it's well deserved when you do.

I thought it was utter crap for the first few weeks I had it, but soon came to realise it was a nuanced and complex record. This was the polar opposite to my TT5B reaction.
