I don't mean to be a doubting Thomas here ..... but the Beastie Boys are not known for being serious. I think it's more of a joke for them to get on stage and look around and have themselves a good laugh during and after the show. I could be wrong if I see something on the tickets that says anything about a dress code, but until then I have to believe this is the bboys inside joke that they are playing on the fans.

Remember they said the same thing about the pagaent tour and no one did it except for a select few in each city, and personally I know they looked ridiculous and were laughed at by a few crew members as well as audience members.

Just my 2 cents ....

Anyone caught not dressing to impress at a Gala show will be thrown into a pit of hungry Crocodiles immediately after the show. It'll be on your tickets. Go ahead.

Check.

I'd have a hard time believing the Bboys were doing this and then saying "haha look at that dumbass". They don't seem mean-spirited to me and they never have.

I think if someone has to focus on another person looking ridiculous, well that's probably their own thing. I for one look forward to having a hell of a time wearing something ridiculous.

I like the Captain's outfit idea. I think I might try that look.

I dressed to impress for the pageant; I did look ridiculous, but I had fun.
I'm that stupid kid with blue hair on AIFST.
I didn't see anyone laughing at me; even if they were, they had the right to because I looked like a total moron.
But I had fun, so who cares.
So yeah, that's my opinion.

that's awesome! great dress!!!

I'm really hoping they come to the 9:30 Club in DC! I saw them there back in '04 during the TT5B tour. It would be the perfect place to see one of the gala shows - it holds about 1500.

At the very least you need some kind of bow-tie arrangement...

Man, just dress up for the hell of it. Imagine if everyone in your venue was dressed in slick threads?

That would be funny as hell, and be awesome.

We pimped bad ass outfits to the L7/B-Boys show back on the CYH tour in '92 in Boulder, and we got mad props.

We rocked the threads in the '04 tour, and got called out in Austin (along with Kenny).

This is as much for your enjoyment, as it is the B-Boys.

Now, you may not need to sport a 1960's buttoned down 3-piece, but rock something that has a bit of flair, pizzaz or a little je nois se qua.

Just get fresh.

If the board members band together and all dress up, then we can all laugh at the sissy soul suckas who don't dress up.

Mwuahahahahahahahaha.

From my Pumas to my Kangol I always dress to impress.

I regularly look ridiculous to people who aren't diehard b-boys - that's their loss.

I always used to like it at Specials gigs where the 2 tone crew turn up in their pork-pie hats, suits and loafers etc. and have extra love for the dudes who you can just tell dress like that all the time.

I may be wrong here but I've also noticed down the years that Adrock occasionally appears to reference MOD culture in his clothing choices and I know he liked some of the JAM stuff - and MODs were all about dressing to impress - b-boys too.

dressing to impress is a way of life - one which the beasties excel at.

Not taking things too seriously is also one of their impressive traits.

I would have to say it all depends on how hot it is whenever these "Gala" events take place. Who in the hell would want to wear a suit in 90+ degree weather while waiting outside a venue? I sure don't.

I guess this is why they make short suits, kinda like the one that they guy in ac/dc wears.

I think American boys have issues with dressing up. You could learn something from the Europeans. Us ladies always like a man who knows how to dress!

There are guys, like me, who don't dress to impress based on principle. I wear whatever I want. I do have a suit that I've worn like once though, I'd like to haul it out for a Gala Event. As far as getting ladies though... if they don't like who I am, I'm not interested in them.

Someone could do the three piece suit ala Pee Wee Herman... or, with a different tie its James Bond from Goldfinger (or Leonardo DiCaprio in Catch Me If You Can).
