View Full Version : From what I've heard Kanye is on his way to a 3rd classic album

Would this make him the first ever rapper to do so? I don't like the man at all but he doesn't seem capable of putting out a bad album and you've gotta respect that.

I heard a few tracks off it and they all sounded good to me. I was proper pissed at the time though.

I agree.
He's got some good tracks, but he's too cocky.
It overshadows his music sometimes.

Broadly classic. Late Registration hate some interminable shite on there. Crack Music is my favourite Kanye beat, though.

Yeah, I don't know if LR was "classic." I like Kanye a lot. College Dropout was classic. LR was a solid sophomore effort.

it could be him shittin himself on every track, it doesnt matter, stronger is the best song of the summer.

a 3rd classic? i thought you had to have a second one before that....
Lex Diamonds

Maybe it's debatable but the amazing songs to average songs ratio was strong enough for me to call it a classic.
It was a sick album, regardless.

Kanye West is rubbish. His attitude stinks and he doesn't actually contibute anything new lyrically to hip hop (or rather "rap music").
Gold Digger is far from the observational anthem he imagines it to be: its just offensive and sexist, made even worse by the fact that in its blandness it is presented as some kind of vaguely intellectual rant.
At least 2 Live Crew were funny.
Lex Diamonds
06-20-2007, 06:12 AM
Kanye isn't meant to be taken seriously... I thought that was pretty clear. Sure the guy's an asshole but I don't see any problems with his lyrical content. It's not the most intelligent but at the same time at least he tries to put some kind of positive message in there.

Are you crazy? All he did was take that (was it daft punk?) sample, sped it up, and put some LAME ASS rhymes over the top. probably took him the best of 15 minutes to make. its.... SHITE. most uncreative track ever in the history of the world. no exaggeration.

he's never been good at choosing singles.
ever.
you couldn't get any further from representing Late Registration than "Golddigger".
adam_f
06-21-2007, 09:40 AM
Well, if you count the fact that Golddigger was one of the most popular songs of 2005, then yeah, he's terrible at choosing singles. "Heard Em Say" was released as a single, which represented the album fairly well, but it went nowhere and then it was "Touch the Sky" which launched Lupe Fiasco into the public eye.
So yeah, he really is terrible at choosing singles.

its gonna be dre this year. granted he only does about 50/60% of the rapping on his albums, especially on 2001, but we all know detox will kill it. and you can't deny the chronic or 2001. i can happily listen to them both without skipping a song. maybe one from each i dont enjoy as much as the rest.

Well, if Kanye fits the criteria then Kool G Rap, Rakim, Ghostface, Big Daddy Kane, Jay Z, Ice T and plenty of groups (PE, Tribe, De La, EPMD, CMW etc) have all released 3 classics in a row.

FUCK kanye west. He dissed Justice for their Simian remix music video, then turns around and samples Daft Punk for his next big single of the summer? Justice, Daft Punk, and the whole Ed Banger crew are hot shit this summer and he's not, so what does he do to make it big? Rip them all the fuck off. The dude's a complete style biter.

beastie boys have released 3 classics, 2 for sure busome people consider cyh a classic
sampling in hip hop has been big sinc forever. its your opinion on wether its creative use or just beat biting...
and i was thinking if if dre releases detox and it lives to the hype then dre would have 3 clasics in a row, unless i'm missing any other albums by dre, its only been the chronic and 2001 so far right?
oh and i doubt detox will release this year. maybe early-mid 2008

Yeah that was announced a week or two ago, and 50 has been going at Kanye in interviews ever since. Graduation will undoubtedly be the better album but I'm surprised Jay is willing to let Ye go against 50 Cent who is probably the biggest pop star in rap right now.
I think Kanye chose that date because it was the release for The Blueprint 6 years ago. (y)
Mr Films
07-26-2007, 04:54 AM
oh snap, I didn't think of the Blueprint connection.
And yeah, Graduation will obviously be the better record. And judging by 50's sudden inability to get a single off the ground, it just might be the sales champ.

I respect the fact that in my opinion he pretty much flipped the un-flippable, sample wise. I like that song a lot, I like the gay cover art, and I'll be happy if this album sounds nothing like the last two. College Dropout is still incredible, Late Registration I don't really like as much. Something fresh and alienating will be great.

Meh, one had 4 or 5 incredible, stand out tracks (College Dropout) while Late Registration didnt have any song that "stood out" but was more a consistent, well rounded LP. Someone once said College Dropout felt more like a pumped up mixtape and I agree. I think this 3rd LP will be good. There wont be a huge leap in his rap skills as with his 1st and 2nd, but beats.
