If it wasn't MTV i'd say that's wonderfully surreal, but its MTV so its probably just stupid.

MTV isn't MTV anymore. Everyone realizes that now. I wish that I could just watch MTV that was for real just music videos. Maybe they'd schedule like "80's hour" and they could keep that pop-up show from VH1...but any other programming to me just belongs somewhere else.

...I saw on IMDB that the new Fantastic Four movie had won an award, and I was like, "What the fu --- !?" So I clicked on it and looked and that was the award it had won.

They should just call it "List of Viacom related movies we would like you to see".

I still laugh when I see how surprised & excited the already miked up people are on Pimp My Ride to see X to the Z standing at their door.

I'm honestly confused as to whether the "White Rapper Show" was real or a parody of regular programing......

Exhibit the host, I don't know how to spell his name in crazy rap lingo. Exhibit, or something - I know there is at least one z in it.

It's a self-parody, I think. I saw an ad for it the other night on MTV:UK and it was basically a big jokey ad where some woman using "street-tawk" was going on about it, and then said to her "co-presenter" who was an old fat bloke in a dinner jacket "who'ja finks gonna wynn best summa moovey you ain't seen yet?" and the guy replies in a bewildered voice "I don't know, I HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET!" in a posh accent.

My bad: it was nominated, but didn't win.

Apparently, it really was a category, though:

Best Summer Movie You Haven't Seen Yet
Winner:

* Transformers (2007)

Other Nominees:
# Evan Almighty (2007)
# Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
# Hairspray (2007)
# Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
# I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007)
# Rush Hour 3 (2007)
# Simpsons Movie, The (2007)

....can't believe that La Vie en Rose didn't get nominated, though....

Which gave birth to Headbangers Ball~ It'd drive home drunk and on various drugs on Saturdy Nights ready to put the VCR on Record/Pause just waiting to record the good shit they'd play the final half hour ie Testament~Over the Wall, Exodus~ The Toxic Waltz, Annihilator ~ Allison in Hell, etc

Oh, shit -- I remember that. It's all coming back to me.

I had a little crush on Martha Quinn. Not a Mary Tyler Moore-sized crush, but still.

I can't say I remember power hour unless that was right around 4PM EST bf Dr. Dre and Ed Lover took over. If it is I was sorely disappointed with the overplaying of Kiss ~Crazy Nights and the various Poison videos that were spread around like a bad case of herpes

abcdefz
06-19-2007, 10:42 AM
It might not've been called "power hour" exactly, but I know what ng about. there was a segment called "Cutting Edge" or something, too. About 90 minutes of programming at 2 a.m. they'd never dare play during regular viewing hours. I think a martini glass was the logo.

This was waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy before Dr. Dre.

MC Moot

^well to be honest it's cause it was on Much Music (canuck copycat) not MTV....due to Canadian content laws,MTV was not on the air here until recently....unless you had satellite...which made my neighbor the most popular cat on the block......

I think the timeline goes Cockrock to Dr. Dre/Ed Lover 86 and that was right around the birth of Headbangers Ball. But Rickie Rockman didn't hit the set for about a year. Thus the beginning of the end for HB

THAT'S the name I was thinking of.

...does anybody else remember Don Kirshner's rock concerts late at night?

BangkokB

Was that on ABC?

If so then yes, vaguely

abcdefz

That sounds right.

I don't think it was King Biscuit Flour Hour -- I think that was radio -- but... Kirshner's Midnight something or something.

But, yeah.
