I had never really paid much mind before, but I think the line "You heard my style, I think you missed the point... It's the joint!" in Shake Your Rump describes their musical approach perfectly. So many people are caught up in the technical skill of musicians, or basically being impressed by one thing that's done really well. In the context of the song, I take this quote as meaning not to care how good of an MC each Bboy is or how well they play this instrument. At the end of the day it's all about "the joint", the song. If you were to play someone, especially a serious hip-hop fan, a Beastie Boys acapella they would probably not be too impressed with the lyrics or flow. But pair those vocals with a track and you have yourself a great song. It's the joint.
