Fucking seriously, they look like animated piles of rubbish, with stupid insect faces in the previews for the new one. Although I heard they got the original Optimus' voice actor on board for the new one.

I seem to be in the minority of people who think this new Transformers movie looks like utter shit. It's getting great reviews from newspaper and lifestyle journalists. Tell me where they were during the Matrix Quest? Pricks.

They do look retarded, but the vehicles themselves look great.

i think what some old school fans fail to see is that they had to change the look of the transformers in order for the film to look in any way real. Look at the original cartoons; none of those robots could actually change into what they were supposed to be, things just disappointed etc. It would just be unacceptable for the "real life/CGI" transformers to do that same.

And anyways, would you really want to see some of the same stuff? I like the originals and all, but child robots running around malls on Cybertron? That just doesn't make sense, but its forgivable as a cartoon. but not as a live-action film. Or robots turning into hand guns to be shot by other robots. What?

Child robots? what? how does that even work?

Even though Bay/Spielberg didn't stay 100% true to the original character designs, plotline, and story arcs of the characters...I must say as a fan since the cartoon and toys came out I am still excited to see this movie just for the summer smash up fun.

Ya gotta remember there have been many incarnations of the characters since the 80's, in fact many died (prowl, ratchet, ironhide, Prime, starscream) or were reinvented in the first movie.

I gotta admit some of the designs are awful (Frenzy, Starscream, Megatron), but other character styles are pretty damn tight (Prime, Ironhide, Blackout, Bonecrusher)

I think this upgrade in style will be particularly appealing to the younger crowd and will generate a new interest in the franchise

the thing is, those cartoon ones were feasable as real life vehicles that changed into robots. they had the whole toy like to prove it. if at all, they coulda made things "dissapear" with CGI as much as they did with cartoons.

i think optimus prime in the movie does resemble the cartoon version. he actually has a face (http://media.movieweb.com/galleries/3311/2525/lo/transformers_conceptual_designs_36.jpg).

they coulda done similar things with the others.

THIS IS MY GUESS:
the REAL reason there are so many changes is probably dues to car companies wanting to show off newer model cars in the movie. back in the cartoon you had vehicles that resembled porches, vw, gm's, fords... which all are competitors. they could have made bumblebee into a new vw bug and shit like that, but i suspect there were probably conflict of interest issues that made them have to change things up. i dunno i could be wrong.

i am with you on the gun thing. that shit makes me laugh every time.

shut the fuck up everyone!

of course they changed the designs to show off corporate new models cars/jet fighters/whatever. all movies do it.

of course they look totally different than the old school type (roosta made the good point there). they are trying to make it look believable.

of course the decepticons look crazy-weird - but that's good... make them look evil and spikey and crazy-looking. if starscream actually had a human face in this movie (like he did in the cartoon), i'd fucking lol in the cinema. make him and megatron look like evil, menacing cunts.

WHO CARES! fuckin' enjoy it for what it is. i can't fucking wait. i think i read somewhere that the director wants people to enjoy this as if they were 10 years old and seeing the originals again. i'm taking that into the movie.
