Just listened. Some nice little songs, but the feeling I got is "that's it?" Wasn't really excited for an all instrumental album, not really excited having listened to it. But it's fine.
Unfortunately, Icky Thump, which is also available on the same page, blows this out of the water.

I'm pretty sure it was meant to be heard with your ears. Did I miss a memo?

Computer speakers reduce everything down to shit.
Get it on a decent sound system and it sounds lovely. Oh and I have my copy legally, you dirty downloaders!

Oy, I feel like one of those i'm-waiting virgins must feel after getting drunk at a party & throwing caution to the wind. Oh well! I'm listening. I didn't mean for it to be such an unspecial circumstance I just clicked on the link and it felt so good I couldn't say no!
The music makes me all warm inside. Too soon for me to comment any further... but I'm loving it. I get it. It feels like a natural progression for this band & their influences.
Oh my god -- bitches at mtv called "off the grid" "off the griNd!"
ok, i have to shut the window now this just isn't right. NO means NO MTV.ca!

I'm hearing it....I like it very much :)
Some of it harks back to "Transitions", the distorted guitar on "Off the Gri(n)d" reminds me of Futtermans. Then some of it again sounds completely new.
Someone said they thought "that's it" after hearing it which I can identify with. Problem is that it really isn't an impact album which is going to grab you by the throat the first time you hear it. It will gradually grow on you and by the 4th or 5th listen will be firmly entrenched inside your "eargasm" brain synapse ;)

Alright, I've listened to it several times now. It's got its moments, but I still say "that's it?" The one thing that bugs me a little bit about the album is that it comes across way too much like some jam-band type shit. Not that I need conventional verse, chorus, verse structure or anything to enjoy a song, but it feels too noodly.
I remember buying Check Your Head when it came out and listening to it with my friends while getting really, really high. I know this sounds like a "they don't make 'em like they used to" complaint, but comparing that to this is so underwhelming. Whatever, it's not bad.
If this were an Aglio type thing between releases I'd feel the same way about the album (although I love Aglio), but would be able to hold out hope for future projects. I get the feeling, and could be wrong, that the Beastie Boys as I've known them have moved on permanently. I know that growing up involves maturity and development and all that, but I don't need any cocktail party albums.
I'm happy for those of you who are really into this. It's just not exactly my cup of tea.

... [n]ot everybody has to like or not like the same thing. This isn't like when we were little kids and you had to like the same stuff as everyone else or you weren't cool. Thats just lame.
It is lame, isn't it?
