Anyone seen these guys?
Caught them last night at the Metro (http://www.metrochicago.com/). Bad-ass high energy show got the 1am weeknight crowd jumping. AG (http://www.abstractgiants.com)is 3 MCs and a band -- bass, drums, guitar, keyboards, and an electric violinist who kind of functions as the DJ, flying off into crazy solos and layering over his pedal sampler. HOT. (yeah, I had to work to shake reminders of the DMB violin thing, but that's just classic conditioning leftover from college & no fault of the band.)
I gotta say Ronnie Physical's lightening-speed flow blew us away. The minute he intro'd the band his speaking voice alone stood out. All 3 MCs shine onstage though, rapping fast & clean with political lyrics. Vitamin D showed up. Plenty of band solos and funky jams. I'm usually into harder stuff with more electronics & samples but their live show won me over.
ps - after that we went downstairs to smart bar where Dylan was spinning drum n bass that KICKED ASS and i sweat off 15 pounds.
