Apocalypse Now verses Full Metal jacket
Vote now.
do you mean which is a better movie, or who would win in a fight? because if it's who would win in a fight i think robert duval's scarf could take that entire platoon
except for maybe animal mother...his sunglasses might need to join in to take him
but as a movie, i like full metal jacket better
stanley kubrick could take francis ford coppola in a fight...guy's name is francis for god's sake

As a better movie in general.
I for sure like Apocalypse now just cause of the artistic views whereas FMJ focuses more on the nitty gritty.
I mean, I'm just a fan in general of army movies over jarhead movies. I'll even pick Platoon over FMJ just cause it was an actual platoon and true story.
They focus more on the brotherhood, the real life in between battles and army movies are better at showing true emotion at the roughest times.
Edit: Don't get me wrong. It was a terrible war and believe me, I'm a sufferer from it's after effects but, movies have been made and they will be critiqued.

It's a very tough choice both movies have a bad motherfucker by the name of Ermey who's a true vietnam veteran.
Without a doubt, his role in FMJ was way better. I think he wasn't just acting but flashbacking in that movie.
ermey's easy to miss in apocalypse now if you don't know he's in it. most of his face is covered and his only lines are spoken over helicopter blades.
in full metal jacket though...whoa
i dunno much about marines vs. army, all i know is that i'm a big kubrick fan, and full metal jacket is one big reason why

Word, you've got me on that part. I aint gonna lie both of them have made masterpieces though.
I still prefer the helicopter assault on the V.C inhabited village anyday over the female sniper attack.
I mean surfing afterwards? I'll take that anyday over a basic training scene that's being used everyday.

oh yeah, i'll give you that. that scene rules. although i do still kind of prefer the training half of FMJ. i dunno, it's just so iconic. then again, so is the helicopter attack. I DUNNO

Brando, Sheen, Hopper, Duvall, Fishburne, Harrison Ford, Albert Hall>>>> Matthew Modine, R. Lee Ermey, Vincent D'Onofrio & Adam Baldwin.
It's not even close.
Brando, Sheen, Hopper & Duvall all give, arguably, their best performances of all time.

speaking of jarhead... that was a good movie.
i normally don't watch war movies. or movies where the vast majority of time is spent in the ocean or a sea or some other vast body of water.

ehehe. They're not K friendly, there Handjobikka.
But if you ever do, you want to see the army's version or side of one of the worst times ever. You won't regret it.
It's got a killer soundtrack too.

I was never interested in them either. Till I turned about the age of 19.
Supposedly I grew suspicion as to why my pops had a tattoo of the eagle, globe, and anchor.
But anyhow, I'm still to this day researching it, have been in it and I know that it's hard to even make a movie actually worthy of trying to actually be there and experience it all.
I mean, you have to know what has happened. As painfull as it is. You'll never have a good future without knowing the bad past.
Also, damn even think of the Great Wall which is so proudly charaded, billions of people make it a "before I die wishlist" but it's only purpose was created in desperate times of war.

Full metal jacket is nowhere near Apocalypse Now. Still a good film though.
