So now all of the remixers can see # of downloads by track:cool: Did you guys play with the search function yet? Cool shit. If AOLTNYC was my favorite track, I can just search it and it lists like 50 mixes... No wonder you guys have been working overtime on this. This is the shit.

HUGE PROPS for DB Guy, he pulled of some amazing stuff for the site, 12 hours locked in one room can produce some great results.
---------------------
Search
Download Counts
New Random DJ scripting.
New Mix designation texture thing.
All the database wizardry that makes it all possible.
Putting up with me asking for new features every day.
Alphabetized remix lists'. (No more new mixes at the bottom of the list) :-)
And a whole slew of things that make my life easier on this side of the screen.

He reads the boards, so give him at least 60% of the love......

Yeah, I feel bad for not being able to give full download counts from the beginning, but it really just was not possible because of the way my host keeps server logs. I could pay quite a bit more and get super detailed records, but I would of had to done that from the beginning.

At least now you guys will have some idea of the amount of downloads you are getting. I will tell you that there were mixes that had downloads well into the hundreds. If you want to see those numbers rise, go out there and promote your mixes.

Hosted guys, be sure and change any links you have on your sites, in you sig files here, etc etc... As I will be taking down the old pages soon.

Thanks for the love...

Have fun guys, or is that Fungais? ;)

Foranyone who is not hosted and or did not get the e-mail, You can see a list of some of the new features here (http://beastiemixes.com/blog.php).

I knew from the server logs that you guys download a LOT of files from the site, but I only check the logs every once in a while, and once the mp3 downloads went over 200,000 I kinda lost interest in knowing.

But starting the count on the new site at zero, and watching it grow to (At this exact moment) 1243 remixes downloaded in the last 3 days. Wow, it's now even cooler because we can actually see what mixes are being downloaded, and watch the totals on the front page rise. You think you're happy with the new site? I'm pretty damned amazed myself.

I want to thank you guys for making the site a huge success. I don't mean financially or just crazy well known on the net, but a success to the people who collect remixes, love remixes, make remixes, and just plain people who want to download some cool songs for their iPods, I think the site is doing exactly what I wanted it to do when I started.

I wanted it to be a place where people could reliably come and download remixes day in and day out without having to worry about logging in, signing up, etc etc... A place where DJ's didn't have to worry about anything but their next mix. And I think that's working.

You guys, the downloaders, as well as the DJ's ARE BEASTIEMIXES.COM

I swear, If I ever win the Lottery, I'm going to come and visit ALL of my hosted guys and stay a week at your house!! (And drink up all your beer) :p

Hey Silence, great job on the new site!!

At first it looks kinda the same, but what you pulled off with the db guy is amazing...it must have been hell putting all the mixes in a catalogue... And then there are the cool new headers that must have cost you tons of time. anyway, its done so you can finally enjoy the fruits of your labor...

Cheers TD

This one is cool too...I noticed that each of the dj page links have an id number at the end....mine is 4....I changed it to 1 just to see who it was and got this error page.....

Hey DjB, Yeah, you'll have to change any links pointing you your old DJ page, as I'd like to archive them off somewhere so people don't come in from an outside link and go, WTF..

haha, just curious in how much time a few of these features have been worked on?

As far as download stats on the page, you're going to have to be patient. My database guy is working on setting up the database structures to handle download counts, remix ratings, top ten list, etc etc etc.... We both work full time jobs, as well as running other sites. We will be, and I have so far put a lot of focus on this site because I love the remixes, and the Beasties. So this is my "fun" site that I like to work on.

For now, I can tell you what information I have from the server logs on your mixes. I will only do this once, and you'll have to wait until the site has this feature to see this again.

Thanks for all your mixes so far..

Silence7.

Cut and paste job, so it's not very pretty......

As my host's logs are now, many many download counts have rolled off the back end of the 12 month rolling log file.

I will give you a fun fact. for the last 12 months.
June 7, 2006 00:25 to June 28, 2007 00:04.

These were the top 3 downloaded mixes
-------------------------------------------------
Josh Furey - 13_Time to Build_Josh Furey.mp3
1,315
CosmoKramer - Ch-Check It Out_Michael Jackson BAD mash_CosmoKramer.mp3
1,067
deejayzap - 01 We Got The Illinest Rhymes.mp3
939

There were definitely mixes I saw on the list with download counts over 2,000.

In the same (last) 12 months,
.mp3 [MP3 sound files] 240,905

So we're effectively missing about 6 months worth of log files due to the fact that after the first year, time starts disappearing off the beginning of the log.

Being as we're keeping our own logs now, counts can be kept and shown for years.

Keep up the good work guys, your numbers will grow, and you'll be able to see what I've been watching happening over the last year and a half, People Love Beasties Remixes. :)

I've put up some new link buttons on the 2.0 resources page (http://www.beastiemixes.com/twopointohresources.php) that you guys can use on your sites, MySpace pages etc to link to your pages on Beastiemixes, so get out there and promote your mixes. :p

haha, just curious in how much time a few of these features have been worked on?

There was a whole lot of planning, a lot of thought about what needed to get done, and then actually finding time where DB Guy and I could actually get in the same room and hash stuff out and work. I did a lot of the prep work, Graphics, Design, etc... And he made all the tools to help me put everything into the database, made some templates out of my designs so that all the data would get filled in in the right places, (DJ name, e-mail etc) and he did all the programming of the database stuff layout of the tables on the DJ page, etc etc etc....

In terms of hours, probably a lot, between him and I, working separately, me making headers, doing buttons, entering 900+ mixes with all their info into the database, and him working on stuff at his house that I didn't even know about til' I saw it on the page.

It could have been done a lot quicker if the site was our ONLY job, but it isn't. We both have lives that leave little time for the site.

I will put up our online spreadsheet soon, where we would jot down stuff that needed to get done, and stuff that was done. It's quite the list....

We still have something new to show you guys in about a week. It's completely working right now but it's being tweaked almost daily to make it just that much cooler....

I'm glad you guys are liking it so far. :D

I realize that there are bigger, better, and cooler sites out there that make it a whole lot easier for you to upload your mixes directly to your pages, you can change your photos whenever you want, you can add comments, and a bio to your page, etc etc.... They also have huge budgets and a full time staff. ;)

So I'm glad that you guys put in the time to put up with the limitations of beastiemixes, it is the way it is because I want it like that, I like to check out the mixes before they go up, I like to make sure they are Beastie related, etc etc... If I opened it up like soundclick, or acidplanet, it wouldn't be what I wanted, and it would quickly decay to a place where you could store your mixes, or any other mp3 you felt like uploading. It wouldn't stay a place that only hosts' Beastie Boys remixes for long.

I will never admit publicly how much time I personally spend on the site, let's just say it's too f-ing much.. :)

Anybody up for another DB Guy request.
Led Zeppelin - Over The Hills And Far Away (From: Houses Of The Holy)
If you feel abused by this guy, just let me know, and I'll take him out! ;)

FYI, Mixes stay "NEW" for 2 weeks, then the "NEW" will automatically disappear, and the background lines will go away.
