I like neither. I can't stand owing someone money, and if I feel like someone owes me money, that means there must be a large enough amount involved for me to feel like someone needs to pay me back.

oh daddy i love you!

That's when selective memory loss becomes a big asset!

I've had two roommates who pushed it, money-wise/rent-wise. Basically, if they didn't get caught up by month #2, that was it. It's just not worth it unless there's some legitimate crisis going on, like owing Joe Pesci some for gambling debt or getting a really great new tattoo or something.

I love Ben Franklin with 78.6764% of my heart, but "never a borrower or a lender be" doesn't really take into account life's various ups and downs, or even just plain forgetting your five bucks at your desk when you and your buddy went to the taco cart for a quick lunch before getting back to the grind.

I guess that's one of those hypothetical admonishions that sounds great on paper.

...it was Ben Franklin, right? Poor Richard?

...so you never loan any CDs or DVDs or books or anything? And you don't use a library?

Benjamin Grimm, Franklin Richards or Reed Richards? Something smells fishy here!

Well, if you're getting material from a library by checking it out per the rules, you're borrowing. Simple as that.

And, by the looks of things, anyone who wants media just downloads it.

Not so. (y)

Nope. You paid your fare, presumably.

But we borrow things from libraries. We borrow a pen to jot a note down. Etc. We can't just be hard-ass about NEVER borrowing and NEVER lending. that's silly.

-- and I'm not talking about "lending an ear," either.
