someone in canada or elsewhere that gets free healthcare please marry me.

Because if this issue I am having doesn't go away within the next few days I'm gonna be another 7000 in the hole with medical debt I imagine. Unless I do what bionic did and lie about leaving my id at home ;P

I'm already almost 20,000 in the hole from medical debt.

I'm having the same problem right now that I was having at the start of the year. The doctor just threw medicine at me and never really fixed it I guess.

And I am not permanent here for another two weeks. And even then I'm unsure if there is a waiting period for medical insurance. I asked HR and am waiting on their response.

A friend is trying to get antibiotics for me through his brother who is a navy surgeon.

Hopefully he does because it's so bad to the point that right now I can barely talk. Half of my airway is covered by this swollen tonsil.

Maybe you could go to an emergency room and tell them what's up. Maybe they'd slide you in, regardless. It sounds bad.

06-25-2007, 11:42 AM
they will take me in at the ER, I just don't want to get charged the 7000+ plus it will cost me. That and with rent coming up I don't think I can afford the medicine sans insurance because the cost will be a LOT higher.

Unless, like I said, I give them the wrong info and leave my ID at home.

Aren't there any free clinics around where you can get an evaluation? Imminent health threats are nothing to fuck with. You want cigarettes and alcohol for that.

06-25-2007, 11:48 AM
I am asking around and waiting for the nurse at my job to come back from the meeting she's at to see if there are any. Though it looks bleek. So far the only thing people are telling me is go to Tijuana Mexico. And I think I might want to die before I do that.

abcdefz
06-25-2007, 11:54 AM
Yeah, forget Tijuana. For health care, I mean.

I don't know much about medicine or anything, but... I mean... anti-biotics are probably quasi-safe, but taking any medication without a proper physician giving you a look and taking a stab at "practicing medicine" is kind of a bad idea, I think. My opinion.

The NHS takes a lot of flak, but thank fuck we've got it...

Come to the UK on holiday and you'll get treated. You don't need to be married to anyone either...

In all honesty, if you go to Scandinavia, they'll treat you for free. Their health care extends to all citizens and all visitors in the country. So if you're in Norway on a skiing trip and break your leg, it's covered.

Trips to Scandinavia are less expensive than $7,000 that's fo' sho.

beastieangel01

the difference would be that I have to pay for a plane ticket upfront
whereas the hospital bills me later

Hmm that's true. Man, that really sucks. Are you low-income? If so you may be eligible for Medicaid. Though that may be for just children, parents, and the elderly. I'm not sure. :-/

How could you possibly be broken to the value of 7000 bucks? The US is fucked up regards that shit. Broken leg? That's 2000 please. Cracked skull? 5000. Oh, you don't have insurance? Well, I'm sorry, come back some other time.

Is it just infected tonsils, I used to get that all the time when I was a kid.

A quick home remedy you could try is to gargle salt water.

7k though sounds like it might be more than just tonsilitis.

i don't think they're allowed to refuse to treat you just because you can't afford it. they can just treat you and hang the bill over your head for the rest of your life. but hey, at least you'll get your stitches

exactly. The ER takes anyone but that bill, good times.

Also it's more than just a simple tonsilitis or strep problem. Unfortuantely. A friend of mine called in a prescription for antibiotics under her name and donated pain killers to me (the pain is enough to where I cannot move my neck, dangerous for driving). Hopefully those antibiotics fight it off enough until I get insurance.

man that strikes me as fucked up. Over here, I'd go to the doc, (free), get a prescription, get some antibiotics. (maybe $15). That would be the end of it.

hun, I think you need to get your tonsils REMOVED as soon as you get coverage. I know that doesn't help with what's currently going on and that they will have to get cleared up before surgery is possible..but if you're having chronic problems they need to go.

I still have mine, though. I use to have alot of problems with them when I was younger and I wish i had them taken out. every now and then they still get infected and it's hell.

beastieangel01
06-26-2007, 04:01 PM
yeah as soon as I have coverage I will kick and scream until they remove them. This is the second time so far this year and it gets worse everytime it's happened at least 5 times within the past year and a half. I talked to a friend who is a doctor and he is positive I also have an abscess on the right (my left) tonsil because the massive pain and everything coming along with it. It's weird though because I have no sore throat but a sore throat hasn't come with for a while now (the past 3 or 4 times). It's closing more of the airway now, but not so bad that I cannot breath at all (obviously). And I can't eat anything anymore. Liquid diet. Haha.

ugh.
I hope those meds come in today.

Yeah, I told you you might have sleep apnea:

http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=79299

Your enlarged tonsils and the little speed bag thingy in between your tonsils at the back of your throat are probably affecting your sleep and were causing the snoring.

If your doctor gives you any stories about not wanting to take out your tonsils, (and he will, mine did, I still have my tonsils btw and they're enormous) you could go to the doctors and tell him you are tired all the time and think you may have sleep apnea. He will not take your tonsil problem lightly then, I promise you.

I've been stabbed 6 times, and that pain was nothing compared to some of those times my tonsils were infected.

I hope you get well.

crafty: probably more than that. I was just talking the office visit and of course they will swab for strep and run those tests. All that would run around 7 grand. An actual surgery? HA! Way more than that without insurance dude.

lopp: alright then. Don't you get a bonus too by being hitched?

i gotta tell you, i'm a little concerned about you taking pain pills for this, especially when they aren't yours, because they were prescribed based upon someone else's medical history for their particular symptoms.

i know that advil isn't the same as a pain pill for the pain you're in, but advil would help with swelling. and if you have an infection and develop a fever, it will reduce that. i'm not sure which pain pill you're taking, but it's likely it can't do either of those things for you.

Well I wouldn’t call it a bonus, I get paid more if I have a dependant. I guess that money would technically be to help care for my spouse but you don’t get a dime until we consummate the marriage….grrrrrowl

beastieangel01

the pain pills aren't a big deal. I was prescribed the same ones last time I had this issue. I also take ibuprofen with it for the swelling. Again, same routine as last time.

I couldn't seem to find anyone that can score me some penicillin, and it's getting worse. So I'm going to to go the ER and hopefully get away with giving fake information so I don't have to pay the thousands of dollars I'll get billed.

There are urgent cares that will take me but they charge 200+ and I have to pay it out of pocket. And that's just to see the doctor not including the culture and tests I know they will do. Which will run another few hundred out of pocket. Which is my rent, so that's no good. Ha.

i would say i oculd help you out, but right now i'm still (luckely) running under my parents until i start my new job. but the new job has some pretty awesome coverage it seems. i don't have to pay anything out of sallary and i get full family coverage, and just a small copay for meds, eye, and dental stuff.

so hopefully my doctor takes whatever plan i am with because that would make things so much easier

which could also explain why we are billed thousands of dollars...

be careful. *cough* felony *cough* and... if you get a prescription, it will be made out to the fake person. then you'd need a fake i.d. to fill the scrip and pick it up.
