I got my tickets in the mail yesterday for the Festival Pier show on August 1st in Philly. They say that it's a "rain or shine event."

They better sell out the Festival Pier Show first. I have tickets for the Festival Pier show, and have had tickets to most of their previous Philly shows. Their last appearance at the Wachovia Center was half full as opposed to the sold out In the Round Tour. Regardless of how many people attend, every show is great in its own way. The fact that they supported Mumia Abu Jamal has clearly hurt them in the City of Brotherly Love. Many people from the Philly area have turned their backs on the boys because of this. Regardless, A Gala Event would be nice to see in Philly.

I was in Philadelphia visiting a college buddy for a week almost two years ago. Phila & Delphos - "Brother" & "Love" in Greek. That could be the extent of Brotherly Love in that city. Great eats though. I really liked this place called George's around the corner from the Famous Pat's King of Steaks. They had killer Sausage and Peppers sandwiches. I ate there two days in a row just because I knew I wasn't going to get anything remotely close to that again.

Next time you go to Philly, visit Tony Lukes. They have by far the best Roast Pork Sanwiches in the world. Not to mention the cheesesteaks are great too. If you go to the Festival Pier show, the afterparty is at Tony Lukes on Oregon Avenue. Across the street from the original Tony Lukes is Tony Lukes Beef and Brew! If anyone is going to the Festival Pier show on August 1, and have the munchies after the concert, Tony Lukes is the place to be. I was really hoping for a Gala Event here as well and I'm totally bummed that it's looking like it's not gonna happen. FUCK!

I don't understand why Festival Pier hasn't sold out yet? I heard them promoting it on WMMR and it's on the Ticketmaster Billboard on I95 near Allegheny.

Looks like I'm going to have to make the trip to Hammerstien in NYC now.

Anybody ever been to that venue before have anything to say about it?

DENVER GETS TWO SHOWS?

I wonder where they have more fans and where they're going to sell more records,

Philly or Denver.

I knew I should have downloaded the album.

That'd be cool if Philly got a Gala Event.

At this point, it's crucial. I mean, unless you want a grown man to cry. I still think there's a chance for Philly. It's the only place I'm going to be able to catch them unfortunately. (Unless they do some midwest and end up in the Chi.)

It's a cool venue but not exactly what I'd consider 'intimate'. Holds like 2 or 3 thousand people. The floor level is usually general admission. Not sure if they'll put seats for this show or not. The grand ballroom upstairs would have been better.

And this is another $51 show!!! Jeez I hate ticketmaster cause that will bring it up to almost $65.

From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammerstein_Ballroom) (there's a mention of the BB's in there from a list of performers)
The Hammerstein Ballroom is a two-tiered, 12,000 square feet (3658m2) ballroom located within the Manhattan Center Studios on 311 West 34th Street in Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States of America. It is known for its elegant appearance and excellent acoustical design. The capacity of the ballroom is dependent on the configuration of the room; the ballroom seats 2,500 people for theatrical productions and musical performances, and several thousand for events held within a central ring. The two main balconies - which are unusually close to the ground and gently sloped - seat a total of 1,200. There are six miniature balconies which are normally used for celebrity guests. The floor slants down to the stage area to enable those in the back rows to see easily.

Not from my experience, it doesn't. The B-boys get much love from Philly. (y)

Fans in Philly are not wacked, but highly passionate. We have not won a major championship since the Sixers in 1983, but we continue to sell out our stadiums with that same passion. As far as Philly fans view the Beasties, some have clearly turned their backs on them for their support of Mumia Abu Jamal. I'm still on board with the boys for their music even after their support of a Philly cop killer. Philly has wacked fans.Explain!

Philly must've turned their back on a lot of bands then, because the list is pretty damn long in support of him.

A lot of the people I grew up with, who I know were big Beastie fans from LTI on up are now Philly cops themselves. In order to be a Philly cop or firefighter, you must live within the city limits, so Philly has a large segment of the population that are employed as Police or Firefighters. The playground across the street from my house has a 30ft. mural of a local Police officer who was killed in the line of duty. The Daniel Faulkner- Mumia Abu-Jamal is, and always will be a divisive topic in this city. And Yes, Philadelphia is one of the most racist cities you'll find, right along with Boston.

Unfortunately, that is their demographic here. The 25-40 y.o. white male. And it is a legacy the Beasties have left here..."Them white rap kids who supported that cop killer, Mumia Jafu-Jumball."

All things considered though, Philly has always held it down for the Beasties as far as albums sold and concert ticket sales.

I think the lack of a sell-out thus far has more to do with the fact that TT5B sucked, and that's what most of the casual fans here have stuck in their heads at this point in time. They most likely don't even know the Beastie Boys have a new album out. It's not exactly being promoted very much.

I got tickets for the Festival Pier show and I guess I'll go the Hammerstein Ballroom show for the Gala...the only place I can think they would play a Gala Event in Philly would be the Tower Theater...it would be nice but who knows if they'll do it

The Tower is actually in Upper Darby, not Philly.
Bring your Kevlar if they have it here.

Heh, I know, but bands that play there still consider it Philly...I've seen quite a few shows there and the Kevlar has come in handy

The TLA on South Street would be a tight venue for a Gala Event. BS2000 played there back in the day. If not, the Electric Factory would be the spot.

Yeah, TLA's a pretty cool spot for that. It's on the smaller/more intimate side of things. MMM and Kid Koala played there right after a B-boys show back in the day.

South Street's changed quite a bit since then. But what hasn't? It still has Dietz's and cheesesteaks with eyelashes. (y)

You're better off hoping for a Philly show. AC ain't gonna happen.

Wow, where do I start? Lots of you need to be schooled here on this board.

Ok, so George's is good but it's not John's when you're talking about roast pork or cheese steaks for that matter. Tony Luke needs to stop his attempts at being an actor and get back into the kitchen. I can't enjoy either kind of sandwich unless it's on Sarcone's bread. Enough said about that.

Next, I shop at Sam's Club enough to know that no one around Philthydelphia can dress nice enough for a Gala Event even if the honor were bequeathed unto us.

Stupid Mumia has nothing to do with Philly fans not seeing the B Boys last time. It's all because most of the people around here like what the radio tells them to like! Beasties don't get air time on anything ever so Linkin Park will sell out because their songs get played every hour. True followers will be there which is better than it being sold out of the non believers.

And lastly, whoever it was that said TT5B sucked needs to take their thumb out of their ear and stick it back up their ass.

HAAHAAAA,

Glad that you were inspired to join up and make your first post just to "School us".

Anyway, I know a lot of people who are waiting to hear if we are going to get a Gala Event.
Plus, it's Pootytang's Birthday and he's flying up from Louisana for the show.
Please do it B-Boys.

Dude,

#1 The last time I checked the last show at the Wachovia Center looked pretty damn packed.

#2 The TLA would rock, however, the tower has more of a history. And for whoever said that you need to wear your kevlar if they play at the Tower must be a West Chester or Main Line prima donna who knows little about the area. no offense to WC or the Main Line, just you don't know the area. So don't hate on Upper Darby. Too many people I see drivin mommy and daddies car to south street on Friday and Saturday nights thinkin' their down on the scene. Grow up.

I made the Kevlar comment.

1. I live in FKD, have practically all my life. Is that enough street cred for you?

2. I have kids almost old enough to drive my car to South Street on Friday and Saturday night.

3. Sounds like you might have some growing up to do of your own.

I will agree with you on one thing though, Upper Darby isn't as terrible as the neighborhoods I'd have to travel through to get there (W.Philly).

No need in arguing about any further though because the shit's goin' down in AC.

Yo,

dude, I know you were making a joke. My apologies. I just tend to take things personal when I shouldn't. Been hearing UD jokes my whole life from people that shouldn't be opening their mouths (not you, just the people I mentioned in my post). Truce? to much to be excited about to start flaming, feels like we should be sticking together instead of arguing. So, my bad, I should think before I speak/type.
