I went to Paris to see the Beasties at Le Zenith. Was just as excited about seeing Cornelius, but something strange happened. Was wondering if any other people who went to the gig that night can help explain....?
The doors were due to open at 1930. We got there at about 1945. Stood around till they finally opened the doors at about 2100 I think it was. Got into the venue, got a drink, went into the arena and then the Beasties came on. No sign of Cornelius though they thanked them at the end.
We heard vague noises whilst we were waiting for the doors to open but they sounded like soundchecking - disjointed kick drum sounds and the like. Didn't sound like a support act, and besides - who would have watched them? The whole crowd was outside waiting for the doors to open....
Anybody explain???
Cheers,
Dave

I don't undertand what you tried to say Dave...
I was there and the doors opened at 18h30.
Cornelius played from 19h45 to 20h30,
and the beasties came on the stage at 21h.
Where is the problem??
(maybe you came a little bit late, and the security
let nobody enter during the cornelius show??... I dont know!)

Weird.
Yeah - that must be it. They would not let us until after 2100. We got there at 1945, like I said.
Not something I'm used to - being locked out the venue if you're not in before the support band starts. But then, this was my first gig in France.
You live, you learn, as they say....

I haven't heard of a rock venue refusing to admit people during the opening act. For serious classical music and plays you don't get seated until the second act if you're late, but not at a rock concert.
Cornelius was painful to stand through. Perhaps I just wasn't in the mood for wind chimes -- especially when four people were playing them. :p When I saw the thread title I thought you were going to mention that he was sort of booed off stage. At least that's what I thought it sounded like. I clapped just because I felt sorry for him.

The beginning of the show was rather interesting (with the color bars(y))
I think the should use this concept more..

I remember liking some Cornelius stuff about 10 years ago so I was quite looking forward to this. The concept of the videos in the background was nice, but as every sound was so in time with what happened on the screen there was no room for experimenting. And as a "hippie" I did like the windchimes as well, thought all the time where I could get so long ones home as well (like there wasn't enough of those on my balcony...).
But if they'd played any longer they definitively would've needed to something different.

Looks like I had a lucky escape then.
I'm now well confused though as to why we couldn't get into the venue. I just saw thousands of people standing around in what looked like a queue. Maybe it wasn't a queue - maybe they were just standing around.
As for my earlier assertion that the sound we could hear coming from inside and the fact that we assumed it was't music because it was a simple, monotonous kick drum kind of sound - well, your posts now explain it.
Probably for the best that I missed them as it may have hampered my mood which was absolutely f*cking jubilant. Beasties were absolutely spot on that night and nuff respect to Mr Diamond for the kicking fro he is currently sporting!
