View Full Version : stupid acne
i'm not like covered in it or anything but i usually pretty much always have a few spots somewhere on my face at any given time. i can't really find a treatment that works to get rid of it, either. i tried salicylic acid, that doesn't do much. i tried benzoyl peroxide; it's worked the best so far, i had noticeably fewer zits while using it, but it really dried the fuck out of my skin. it was visibly flaky, to the point where it almost looked scaly in a few spots; facial moisturizer covered it up ok, but it was still very irritated and the moisturizer usually wore off towards the middle of the day, so i'm done using that crap; i'd rather put up with a little acne than deal with that anymore.
anyone have any recommendations? besides going outside, i mean, i don't wanna do that, there are girls out there, and that terrifies me. i mean i guess it's not that bad, but still, i'm nearly 23 now, i'm tired of these things on my face. i've recently discovered that milk has been found to have a correlation with acne, so i'm going to stop drinking that, but i dunno what else to do. i'm exercising regularly, i'm keeping my hands away from my face, but it's still there

I put tea tree oil on mine. it dries up the pimple. which is odd for an oil, but it works. I like the way it smells too.

I'm sorry to hear about your problem. I got some bad acne but I got some got some good medicine and didn't try to pop em and they went away. I also became a nearly o.c. facewasher, but thats another story.
Are you taking antibiotics? I used minocycline in pill form. It was expensive as hell but they probably have some genaric thing now.

i'm not taking any antibiotics, no.
i've learned that an important thing to do is to avoid irritation, so they say to try to avoid washing your face more than twice a day, which i've been doing. i don't pop them or anything either.
i wanna avoid things that overdry the skin if at all possible. it got really disgusting while i was using the benzoyl peroxide. if i just brushed my hand against my face, i'd see little flakes fall off, it was nasty. it's stopped now since i've stopped using it, but the zits are back

Heiress, you're too pretty for makeup
I still get pimples....but, I've found a nice scrub that works decently
what I hate is when you think your winning the war and KAPOW!
spontaneous mystery pimple with a vengeance!!
yeah. the worst is when they appear in areas that are hard to reach with medication. like right on the edge of your lip, or in your eye area. like right underneath your eyebrow, or sort of where your nose meets your eyebrows, arg. the bottle says "avoid eye area" yeah, well, tell that to the pimples

I know what you mean. I never get it on my forehead or cheeks...the places it's most common. Just two small areas on the left and right sides of my mouth seem to always have a spot or two. It could be alot worse, but still, it bugs.

a tip for if you have a big fat juicy pimple is to put toothpaste on it. it helps dry it up but in my experience doesnt lead to the crusty flakey skin that acidic creams can cause
i dont know if they make it anymore, i havnt seen it in stores in awhile, maybe check online? but clearasil made a face lotion that was great. it somehow managed to moisturize while also having some sacracylic acid in it, or something to that effect. if washing daily drys your face out something like that would be worth finding, as other lotions could just made the acne worse.
also, pretty much the only thing i use on my face now is burt's bees garden tomato toner. i use it on its own, but its supposed to return your skin to its normal pH and remove soap residues as well as moisturize and remove dead skin and such. in any case, it makes my skin feel clean and nice and fresh without drying it out. you could try some of that after washing to help undo the effects of harsh acne soaps. burt's bees products can be hard to find in some places but they have a website where you can search for places that sell their stuff or order online. i havnt used a very wide range of burts bees products, but everything i have used has been amazing. its expensive but if you've got the money to spend on your toiletries i hightly reccomend them.

Try and get some dried Viola (http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=VITR) tricolor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viola_tricolor) from somewhere, it grows wild here, but if you're in a city try some of the "alternative" stores, some might stock it. All the herbal parts (flowers, leaves, stems) can be used as a tea, drink it two-three times a day for two weeks and voilá! Your skin is much better!
