One of the finest titles I've ever played...do try and get all the bonus items, I did (with much difficulty) and they're quite cool.
Have you played ICO?

nah man, never played ico. heard only good things. i'm up to the 13th colossus. it's pretty cool. the bull colossus was small, but fun (with the torches).
i love love love shadow of the colossus, but to tell the truth i couldn't get into ico.
what i loved the most about shadow of the colossus were the epic fights, the triumphant music, and the impossibly beautiful graphics...ico only had 1 out of the 3, and it had crate-pushing puzzles and a game-long escort mission to make up for the other two while retaining the relatively clumsy controls -- i dunno, it wasn't my cup of tea.
i do hear almost universally good things about it though, my opinion is a minority one

mega gay, but i always feel kind of sad for the colossus when it bites it. by the time you've figured out how to climb on to the vitals, it's pretty much defenseless. although i have a feeling the last one will be impossible. i hope it's gigantic. the sheer scale of the monsters is really cool.
i wanna say things but...i can't...say...oh just keep playing

You're in for one hell of a ride when you get to the last one, bwahahahaha.
Man, I'm glad I saw this thread. I'm gonna have to dig it up and play it again. I've got the feel that it's got some replay potential.

It's actually got amazing replay potential...I think the developers saw what little Ico had, and over compensated. Every time you play through the game you can keep your health meter, and open up new weapons like explosive arrows, a cloak that allows for invisibility, a harpoon, and my personal favorite...a parachute that you can let loose when your falling from a Colossi....
I played Ico first, and it'll always be my favorite of the two...but in many ways they're just one big story, so it's hard to compare. Little known fact...have an Ico game save on the same memory card that your Colossus save is on, and the white mark on Agro's head will become the "I" from the Ico logo...
Fumito Ueda, the genius behind both games is working on a game for the PS3 that takes place in the same world as the previous two games....I'll break down and buy one at that point.

feel kinda shit saying this cause the 360 was a sweet birthday gift, but none of the games I've played on that console are anything like colossus. between this and getting san andreas out of the cupboard, this old ps2 was really a great machine.

Nah...no matter what you do at the end, it'll still happen. My guess is that the developers wanted you to experience the feeling of being a giant, after playing the whole game taking them down.
Oh, and I picked one of these (http://cgi.ebay.com/Shadow-of-the-Colossus-Figure-AGRO-WANDER-PS2_W0QQitemZ200127893081QQihZ010QQcategoryZ348QQr dZ1QQcmdZViewItem) shits up on eBay a while back, just because I'm that much of a nerd.
Which Colossus gave you the most trouble KP? For me it was 11...

A couple of them bothered me in that I had to wait for prompting.
The sand-worm was a pain, because I wasn't really following the idea that I had to let him chase me. I figured he'd just catch me. And the turtle-ish one with the geysers, because he just wouldn't stand where I needed him. And the big sea monster with the broken teeth on his head as it took me a minute to work out 'guiding' him.
My favourites where probably the humanoid ones; the third one with the long-sword, and especially the very last one. And the size of the second one.
Controlling Dormin was a fucking nice touch. They really got the investment of feeling out of me. I know I'm miles late on this game, but better late than never huh?

Correction....15 gave me the most trouble. The one that'd step on the ledge, making it go up on one end, thus allowing you to go up into the under hang...

I feel like a shit now, I just realised you can pet Agro.

Later on, depending on how much you want to do in the game, you can unlock a Brown and a White Agro.

to get the unlockable shit, do you need to play through story mode, time attack or both?
about the ending; it's fair to say Wander was double-crossed (or at least wasn't aware of how great the cost would be) and the colossi are actually good, no?

You'll get one set of new items by playing through time attack, and one set by playing through hard mode.
The games creator said he left many elements of the plot vague, as he would like to leave it up to interpretation. But yeah...I (and alot of other players) got the feeling the Colossi were good.
I've probably posted this 3 times already, but check out the #5 speed trial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4LuOTd-M1o). Note that at 1:15 he piggybacks off of it's head to land on the other wing. This one's pretty nice also. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQjrD6ToZr8)
With that said, it's been speculated that the essences of Dormin were bound to the Earth and manifested themselves into the Colossi that you fight throughout the game. And that each essence is supposed to represent a trait about Dormin. I think it's something to consider as each of them has a different personality. Especially the last one. Damn.

The last is one fucking kick-ass. Especially after the two smaller ones (bull-tiger thing and tiger-bull thing). The size of the prick, and how hard he makes it to get to him. A shame he didn't walk, but it's fucking high at the top of his head. lol he blasted me off the cliff at that circular ledge bit lol

Jesus. Always nice to see precisely how rubbish I am at a game. That was crazy.

The first time I played 16.
"Getup getup getup get... damn he flew. There's the guard... Getup getup getup getup getup... FUUUUUUUUUUUCK!" *drops controller*

hahaha yeah EXACTLY. the last guard is that little bit further than any of them. that one was tricky. the atmospherics make that battle so good though.
i do this low whisper "fuuuuuck!" thing when I'm playing, the wife always does it to mock me cause she can hear it from the bedroom. she did it in the supermarket yesterday when I said i didn't want mango juice. "fuuuuuuuck".anyway, my point is that battle had me going "fuuuuuck" in a low whisper, but i was loving it.
how is hard mode harder? are they faster? smarter? fitter? happier?
Lower grip/lower health + more vitals (sometimes?) + new-ish/more powerful Colossi attacks = hard mode.
