Oh my fuckin' God!

My 2. and 3. Beastie show. The first one, pretty 'standard' one was kickin' ass. They played all the hits, well maybe except Time to Get Ill. They played h/c classics like my beloved TFL and Egg Raid (plus Tough Guy and H-AM). They started with Gratitude (WOOOOOOW), then Live at PJ's, then soon came Root Down and/or TFL (although my brain is so raped by their performance I can hardly remember the songs order). If it wasn't for the stupid crowd of Muse lovin' teenagers who occupied the front rows and only created more and more mud under their feet - I'd jump and jump and jump. But as it was really hard to move in that crowd - I only watched and ate the Beasties with my eyes and ears.
The Boys were awesome all the time. They had some goofs (probably on purpose) and that hilarious dance fight between Mike and Adrock (?). Then in the middle of Ch-Check It Out came the 'blessing pause'. Mike asked us to stick our fingers in the air and 'blessed' us with his fresssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh finger. Kick ass! When I heard them play Egg Raid on Mojo some time later or earlier (I have holes in my brain and memory, You know) - it was a dream come true. The encore consisted of H-AM, Intergalactic (wooooooow) and Sabotage (why do dorks shout 'Sabotage' from the very first track? do they want the gig to last shorter?:P). I don't have to add that MMM showed some mad skillz during 3 MCs and 1 DJ... What is more Alfredo and Money Mark were hilarious too. I like it when someone smashes his piano-somethin'.
Another fun part of the show was when Adrock drank somethin' from a plastic mug and everybody started shouting "Na zdrowie!" (which is Polish for "Cheers!" but means "I wish You good health"). He also said "nastrovii" or sth like that. And before the encore they made a toast and drank champaigne (I think). Superb show!

The second show, A Gala Event, was supposed to be a smooth one with instrumental tracks only. I even expected the Beasties not say a word during it. I put myself in 3rd or 4th row and wanted to relax and enjoy their presence. You can imagine how surprised I was when I saw MMM's devices on the scene. That made me suspicious.
They started with Live at PJ's and then.. OMG! I heard The Biz vs The Nuge which could mean only one song after it. It was time to set the motherfuckin' record straaaaaaaight!:D Then they played a whole lotta tracks, only a few from the new album (Suco, B for my, Gala Event) (plus 2 at the first show - Electric, Off the grid), some really nice ones like Futterman's Rule, Transitions, mark on the Bus (now that's a rare one, I think, and a great one!), Ricky's Theme, In 3s, POW, Sabrosa. Remote Control was also present (both shows).
Somewhere before, in the middle or at the end of Ricky's Theme Adrock asked the crowd to look at one another, shake hands, exchange some hugs, be nice, smile. It was truly a magical moment :)

What really killed me about that show was the presence of h/c stuff (the same, except for Tough Guy) and the absolutely stunning, amazing, out-of-this-world-fuckin'-crazy live instruments' versions of hiphop classics like Root Down (no vocals), So What'cha Want (the last before the encore), Looking down the barrel of a gun, Sure shot. (I prolly forgot some)

Once again we had a moment for "na zdrowie" and then Mark made a toast with "nastrovii";]

The encore of the Gala Event was a musical orgasm for one member of this Board at least. After it the world could've just ended, because no event/show/performance is gonna be worth a while after seeing what the Beasties did. They played 5 or 6 more songs. The Maestro, (H-AM?), 3 MCs and 1 DJ (noice! MMM again), SURE SHOT with Mark playing the flute part on his keyboard which (the whole track) was unbelievably greaaaat, Egg raid on mojo (I had the pogo dance of my life on that one!!!!;D) and Sabotage.

To sum up, they nearly tore down the tent in which they played and I pity them fools who stayed by the main scene to watch Bloc Party and Bdork ;]

I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE. Thank You, Beastie Boys. After these 2 evenings I love You 10 times as much as before! Honestly.

I was there too and beastie boys made my festival…
Two shows in a row. I avoided the crowded pit on the main stage show but it’s the instrumental gig I enjoyed the most… one of the best gigs I ever attended, core fans and no shit around festival goers...
I am no new to beastie boys gigs and they appeared to be in a state of grace…
Too bad for the weather on Saturday and the resulting muddy fields…
Sonic youth, the roots and lcd did great too… I guess bjork stormed the crowd as well, but I only catched the second half of her show…
While in gdynia I rented a bike every day and was so lucky to meet MMM and money mark riding bikes. Said hello and chatted for a few minutes. Astounded to hear I came all the way from italy for the beastie boys. Super cool guys… also met bjork in gdansk on Monday. Tiny and still very cute.
I think every MB member has to witness one of the gala events: I have the feeling I made the right choise with Poland, and now I want more…

I enjoyed both shows. For the hip hop show I decided to stand a bit futher which was good because I had a space to dance. Finally I was able to see the videos they display during the shows. The weather sucked but when the concert started it didn't matter.

The Gala event had a better atmosphere becuase you could tell people in the tent were really there for Beastie Boys. During the hip hop show the crowd at times was numb. But generally it seemed people were more enthusistic than during Sonic Youth and the Roots set.

After seeing 4 other gala events before the one in Gdynia I was glad they changed the setlist a little bit. Not really the songs but at least the order. It was cool seeing them open with Live at Pjs.(y)

oh and I loved when Horovitz said "na zdrowie":p

Massimiliano that's cool you met Mark and Mike. I only got to see Bloc Party and LCD Soundsystem at the airport in Gdańsk (which I don't care about at all :( )

blue suit and tie, nothing special, but I optioned the more reliable and already muddy pants and shoes.

I and my friend wanted to buy some wellington shoes when we were in the city centre but all were sold out. So I had black thrash bags around my feet and legs to protect me a bit from the mud so I didn't look really impressive... though somebody even asked if he can take photos of my legs :p

I'm glad you chose Poland to see Beastie Boys and had a wonderful experience.:) I hope they play a show in Italy for you.

I was at this fest.. i thought B Boys were amazing but the crowd on Sat night were arseholes... loads of thugs, all chanting for Sabotage and nothing else. No one was moving, the sound was shite...

Gala show the next day was waaaaaaaaaaaay better but only managed to catch first 50 min cos had to rush over to see Bjork... (I love b boys, but cmon, I love bjork too!)

Im just very happy ive got a ticket for them at brixton academy in sept so i can see them in better surroundings!!

Some great show at Heineken Open'er 2007 ! I enjoyed it very much and I'm looking forward to hearing from Beasties soon in Poland. As far as I'm concerned the Gala Event was better because of it's cameral character at the tent stage. What's more, when 11 p.m. (Bjork concert) was getting close only real Beastie fans stayed so the atmosphere. Nonetheless, both were marvellous !

Thanks very much for that !

massimiliano: Cool meeting with MMM and Mark. It had to be a thrilling experiance. You are lucky : ) MMM was also playing a small set at Bruk Festival with Polish DJ - DJ Kostek. You can see it at youtube: http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ-uKd5wF3E

Best regards !
