I am planning on starting a blog/website about women in the comedy world. Featuring a (good) video weekly of women who are trying to make it plus profiles (maybe some interviews) with women who've made it, etc. There's a lot of ideas but I don't want to put them all up right now.
I think I'm going to call it Bitches Ain't Shit. What do you think? Hrmm..
I haven't seen anything really like it and I think it would be an interesting idea to explore.

I don't think i've ever seen a funny female stand-up

Yeah I tend to not watch women's standup much. I lean toward funny actresses (Amy Poehler, etc.), but I think it's an interesting subject to approach.
You've never seen a funny female stand-up, but that's easy when there's about 2% compared to 98% men. I haven't seen any super funny ones (except perhaps Sarah Silverman) either. I am interested in analyzing why this is.

"Then you got these lady comics talking about stuff that would embarrass Redd Foxx, God rest his smutty soul. Who they slept with, what time they sat on the can. This is supposed to get you a husband?"

That would be interesting.

i made the ex mr. beth go to see paula poundstone with me (quite a long time ago). she was very funny, and he was glad he went. of course, now there's issues because she was accused of child molestation or something like that, so i think she's still staying out of the public eye. i still use one of her lines today, but in a different context.
she was talking about car problems, and then pretends she's talking/reasoning with the car, and says "i buy you brake shoes, you won't wear them." yeah, i know, it's not funny as you read it, but if you'd seen it...

i didn't know that's what happened to her. she used to play the voice of the mom on home movies, then she got replaced, maybe that's why

The name seems like it would repel some significant portion of your potential target audience.
Good to see you excited about stuff though and I'm sure you can have a lot of fun and success with it and make exciting opportunities for yourself and [insert more self empowerment infomercial language here].

There used to be loads of funny female standups back when I used to go to stand up. I don't think Sarah Silverman's as funny as most of them. But then I don't really like her. I never liked Rosanne, Brett Butler, Judy Tenuda, or Margaret Cho either, and I have friends who WORSHIP Cho.
I saw Paula Poundstone, Rita Rudner, Janeanne Garafalo, Sandra Bernhardt, and Ellen DeGeneris and they were all funnier than Jon Stewart and Jerry Seinfeld. Of course, I saw Louie Anderson last year and he was funnier than them too. (By the way, I saw Joan Rivers at a comedy club prior to 1980 because my best friend was obsessed with her. She used to be funny too. :p)
It's a nice idea for a website. If it turned into something, it might be a problem having the same name as the song -- it might be impossible for you to own the rights, but I don't know anything about intellectual property law.

i'm taking that class...i'll get back to you when i'm sober
is that a trademark issue or a copyright issue? we haven't started trademark yet but i allegedly know everything i'm ever going to learn about copyright

how topical
i'm sitting patent attorney exams tomorrow
do you have to have some kind of technical expertise to do that? i'm not fully clear on it but my understanding is that to be a patent attorney in america, you have to have some kind of sciencey engineery technical type degree
then they pay you like trillions of dollars because you're some kind of hybrid scientist-lawyer or something i dunno
i came to law school for the chicks, i dunno nothin bout patents

Yeah, but I don't know, I mean it would only offend people who are dumb and don't get the joke in the first place, which means they shouldn't be there anyways.
It's also "catchy" or whatever, or at least people will remember it, nahmean?
I'm not too worried about the song thing right now, deal with that if it becomes successfull at all.

yeah, that's what i'm thinking. i mean it might piss off militant feminists but i'm guessing militant feminists aren't going to be your target audience

I'm asking Beth and Val if they'll do an interview. Yeah google em or something.
Catherine Tate is the most funny female I know of atm.
But I only really know english comedians and if she does stand up - sure she does, never seen it only in sketch shows but don't all comedians do stand up?

What about in sketch or other types of comedy? Films, etc? I think standup is one of the hardest things to make it in.
Also, your generalization pisses me off.

edit:
Because of the comments on this clip I just found out that comedienne Linda Smith is dead. I did not know this. She died in february 2006 of ovarian cancer. What a shame, she always used to make me laugh. :(

I guess you didn't note my sarcastic undertones.
Maybe the massive stock of unfunny australian female comedians has spoilt it for the rest of the good ones. I'm sure there are funny women on TV, I just can't think of any right now.
