It's difficult to believe that they would conclude with an unknown instrumental.
Laver1969
07-05-2007, 08:48 AM
I could see that order being reversed. Opening with Off The Grid and ending with Sabotage.
I don't think they've ever opened with Sabotage...
dave790
07-05-2007, 09:28 AM
It's a more a new instrumental that an unknown. NME back it's up:
http://www.nme.com/news/live-earth/29428
I agree though, I don't trust the set list order completely, because who knows exactly until they actually play. But I like it, and am pleased something different is possible like opening with Sabotage.
It's all pretty legit. Can't wait!!
Just glad they're doing five songs. With such a large line-up, I was fearing it'd be about three.
Extra looking forward to my trip down to The Smoke now :)

Only five songs? See, I was debating whether or not to go to Virgin Music Festival because it's $100 and I'll only see them for a limited amount of time. If it's only around 5 songs that's $20 a song! I know Live Earth is much larger than VMF, but they're similar.
I'd really love to see JUST them in a non-festival setting, but I have no time off of work and their concerts are all during the week in areas not around me. Bleh. :(

Hmmm...I thought the Live Earth thing was more of an event-type thing where they get a zillion bands to do a handful of songs each. And the Virgin Music Fest fit more into the normal festival set. So I would assume a regular set similar to the other festivals they've been playing.

That set list looks back to front, can,t believe they'll play Sabotage first & Off the grid last!!?
I also heard that they'll be on close to the end! & I'm sure they'll be interviewed during!...either way I shall be having a few beers, bbq & watching!! :D
dave790
07-06-2007, 04:51 AM
I said they'd be close to the end! 4th from last. Why does the Beasties site say 'Wembley Arena - London, GB' by the way...they're hitting the fucking stadium fools! Or at least i hope so...
Pity they'll be travelling from Roskilde... Hope they're as fresh as possible (y)

What a shitty festival. I can't believe that Beasties are opening for Pussycat Dolls. I want to kill myself. Having said that, I hope that someone's going to tape and post this someplace. I won't be home tomorrow.
And hey, I stand by "unknown." Approximately .0005 percent of the audience will have heard the song before.
The television coverage of the concert begins at 9am eastern standard time in the US. It runs all day. Does anyone know the approximate time so I can watch? I am moving so I disassembled my Tivo. I would like to catch the Beasties. Little help?

Its NOT a festival! Its a benefit gig like Live Aid & Live 8, these types of shows always feature a wide array of artists from different genres & typicallys play only a few tracks each inbetween celebrity inroductions & educational videos. Most certainly not a festival - they're about getting wasted & jumping around a lot!!

Here it is the biggest national TV channel that is showing the global show, with loads of chit chat from the Swedish studio.
I'm watching it on MSN (http://entimg.msn.com/i/ExperienceData/p1-7/en-us/x.htm?sh=LiveEarthLive&g=9f240073-cf25-4402-bbb0-bd77c597c4ab) as well at the same time, where you can catch whichever show you want. And the setlists don't seem to be quite accurate compared to what they really play. Duran Duran played Girls on film as well.
And all the drummers were great!
Chili Peppers are on next in the UK.

I was gonna watch it on the BBC before someone got the TV before me:mad:, but i'm glad i didnt now. the MSN footage was perfect for me, but I did find the performace a little 'sloppy' on Sabotage, the sound could have been better.
Also did MMM mess up the 'mmmmmmmdropp' on intergalactic or was that intentional do you think?

I did think it was actually one of the best recent performances. Having to not swear definitely screwed with his flow ha... I found that bit quality! But I haven't heard him scream 'Y'all in my face!!!' in that way since 98 footage. Not saying ti hasn't happened, and again being biased, but I thought it was an energetic and thumping performace.
Again, they rocked it.
i figured he was probably offended by the song, and/or the fact that he somehow got talking into going out there.
tal, i reviewed your footage. does he ever actually play music live? that doesnt seem like the most efficient way to play...
That's interesting. As I mentioned in my review it was funny seeing him, cos he had a sort of 'what the fuck am i doing up here' look on his face which I think most the audience could relate too at that point. Sorry, but the whole Spinal Tap thing can be funny, but to me it was just cutting into the Beasties time - the show was already behind schedule at this point, and I think the fewest amount of people would have given a shit if Spinal's set was cut.
Missed Metallica
Metallica were probs my second favourite band of the day, strong performace. Played exactly the same songs as they did when they played Wembley in the early 90's for the Freddie Mercury thing, which I found cool. Sad But True, Nothing Else Matters, and Enter Sandman in that order.
I watched it live on MSN. I loved it.
They did only 4 songs, right?
Yep, MMM small intro, Sure Shot, So What'Cha Want and Intergalactic, all literally with no space to breathe (in the best possible sense between them) and then Sabotage. Did you record the stream?
Will try and get my other thread review in this one, was too tired/lazy and slightly pissed still last night to think logistically!

And man, did you see that Foo Fighters performance? I didnt realize they had that many fans...pretty awesome.
Foo Fighters are HUGE in the UK. They play big shows over there. And Dave really knows how to work crowds. I hated the last studio CD but their live shows are first rate (rock and acoustic). I think it also helped that it finally got dark so the Wembley audience got a light show.

Sort of review.
And ^^ as you say Doc, Foo's are massive here. Hyde Park was only a year or so ago, and that was their headline show. Dave seemed to hint at the possibility of playing Wembley soon, and it would def sell out.

I get tired of Mark throwing himself around during Sabotage. If it's your first Beasties' concert, I'm sure that's fun to see, but it doesn't do anything for me. In these smaller club shows they've been doing, Mark actually plays keyboards during the instrumentals and you learn that he can contribute to the Beasties' sound, and that was one of the treats for me.
I've also seen Mark play his own set (alone and with a band) and he can play.

I don't think there's any doubt about his skills. Sabotage isn't exactly the most complex or necessary song for keyboards. I don't really think it's an act so much either, just what he does during a pretty manic song, let loose type thing. Was clearly having a good time, it doesn't do anything particulary for me, but I don't object or feel that it hides his skills. It's not too often Sabotage is the only instrumental performced at gigs.

That was a pretty good set, I must admit I've seen the foo's live (acoustic) and it was pretty amazing, That's what I like to see a little pussy between two of my favourite bands........ Too bad the pussy sucked.

Dave, how much of that show did you see? Were you there for the boring acts in the first half? Did they show you all the environmental commercials we saw?

I was there from Razorlight onwards. I'll admit, it would have driven me crazy watching at home, particulary all those adverts. But fortunately when you're there there's the options of toilet breaks, food breaks, beer breaks, general atmosphere soaking up time ha, and certain bands being fairly watchable in the build up etc etc as you probably imagine.
Plenty of boring acts though indeed, the first few I could take, but it got to the point where by Spinal Tap - knowing James Blunt still had to follow before the Beasties - weren't even remotely funny in my eyes, I wanted the Beasties! But all part of the build up.
I can say very little attention was given to any of the save the planet stuff. Polite applause greeted some of the speeches, but lots of them were reasonably drowned out by people talking over. Again, there's shit to do when you're there, but if I wasat home I would have been going mad. Particualry if the whole set wasn't broadcasted.
