From Q mag. (http://news.q4music.com/2007/06/the_20_loudest_albums_of_all_t.html)........along with videos.

Here is the list.

20. Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat (Verve, 1967)
19. AC/DC - Back In Black (Columbia, 1980)
18. Sunn0))) - White (Southern Lord, 2006)
17. Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced? (Track, 1967)
16. Aphex Twin - I Care Because You Do (Warp, 1995)
15. Black Flag - Damaged (SST, 1981)
14. The Birthday Party - Prayers On Fire (4AD, 1981)
13. Motorhead - No Sleep Til Hammersmith (Bronze, 1981)
12. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin (Atlantic, 1969)
11. Neil Young – Arc Weld (Reprise, 1991)
10. Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks (Virgin, 1977)
09. Atari Teenage Riot – The Future Of War (DHR, 1997)
08. My Bloody Valentine - Isn’t Anything (Creation, 1988)
07. Napalm Death - Scum (Earache, 1987)
06. The Who - Live At Leeds (Track, 1970)
05. Big Black - Songs About Fucking (Touch And Go, 1987)
04. The Jesus And Mary Chain - Psychocandy (Blanco Y Negro, 1986)
03. Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back (Def Jam, 1988)
02. Slayer - Reign In Blood (Def Jam, 1986)
01. The Stooges - Funhouse (Elektra, 1970)

This list is completely fucked up, I only agree with perhaps 2, maybe 3 of the choices. If you can't "Air Guitar" whats the point?

I'll start with what is obviously a major oversight. The Ramones! Dammit Q! And that Neil Young choice is just ignorant.

Raw Power is way louder than Funhouse.

and there should be room for the MC5 and the Sonics.

Most of those albums aren't loud at all. Or are the Q crew just really thick and listed all the albums they played with the volume turned up to eleven?
If they judge it like that, they might as well've put an Enya album in there...

Although Slayer and Atari Teenage Riot are quite on the noisy side, I s'pose.

Now that you mention it, where is Spinal Tap?

Any track off Relationship of Command is significantly louder than most of what could precede or follow it on a shuffled playlist.

03. Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back (Def Jam, 1988)

How do they define "loud"?

"Loud" as in noisey, or "Loud" as in brash/making a statement?

I'm pretty sure they mean "Loud" as in noisy. Not as in statement. I immediately would think Swans who basically make "Loud Music". Then the whole "Live" album inclusion changes things.

I only agree with Black Flag, Stooges, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, the Who and Public Enemy. Feedback by Neil Young is ridiculous, choose Sonic Youth if your going to go for feedback and static. All of the rest are debatable.

and slayer is debatable?
listen to the audio difference between 'hell awaits' and 'reign in blood'... then listen to 'south of heaven'. RiB is loud as fuck compared to the before and after albums.

SOAD's albums are always loud. kid p said something about shuffled playlists; SOAD songs fuckin blast out all the time.

Uncle Neil deserves to be up there just for 'hey hey, my my' - the sheer fact he uses a fenderblender (octave up/octave down distortion (y)) pedal for the whole set exemplifies the fact that the 'weld' side of that album (at least) should be included. i can't speak for 'arc' though, as i haven't heard it.

Raw Power should replace Funhouse, though i prefer the latter as a record, the mixes on raw power are all well into the red.

and if we're using mixdown/playback volume as a pointer then, despite the fact i hate to admit it, oasis need to be up there. the brickwalling effect as heard on 'rock n roll star' and 'cigarettes and alcohol' is often used to test p.a. systems, occasionally resulting in blown speakers.

I've noticed that as well.

Another really loud album is XTRMNTR by Primal Scream. Try listening to Accelerator on the same volume level you listen to other songs on -- it'll blow your ears off with noise.
