nelly will get credit for being the first to mix rap with country...

but to my knowledge it was the beasties.

country delight has always been my favorite song on country mikes greatest hits. i think it's one of the beasties best. scratchin' with rooster!?... man, it's genius i tell ya. genius.

i agree, brotha. that album is such a gem. not the most polished beastie or country album in general, but a solid effort nonetheless in solidifying the bboys' still awe-inspiring pursuits in versatility.

What about "5 Piece Chicken Dinner" 1989?

or "Desperado" 1988.. they used that "Good, The Bad and The Ugly" music in the background.

Yeah, when someone says "first to mix this with that" or "first to do x" 99% of the time they're mistaken.

You have to realize that the early days of hip hop were HIGHLY experimental. People were mixing all sorts of stuff together. Nothing was off the table (kids records, country, classical, rock, etc.) It wasn't all soul, jazz, and disco. People were doing lots of crazy stuff. I was in an online discussion on the skratch piklz message board back in the day about people saying DJ -Qbert was the first to use a wah-wah peddle with a turntable. I was saying that's unlikely because Q wasn't doing it until the 90s people like DXT and the Knights of the Turntable were using all types of effects way back in the early 80s. Q-Bert stepped in a agreed, and said he would get mistaken recognition for things that were done long ago, but very few knew about.

I think we'd have the same sitution here if the Beasties chimed in. Country Mike is not even remotely close. Rappin Duke came out in 1984. I bet Bambata was using country records in the 70s before hip hop was even pressed on wax.
