I took a semester some time ago, and would like to take the next semester, but I have forgotten everything and need to brush up over the remainder of the summer. Anyway, I really suck at pronunciation and this one word is giving me lots of problems... möchte... if anyone could give me some kind of pronunciation key thingy that would be sweet. Danke.

When paulb and me were in the father land a couple weeks ago I was forced to use it and it was spass! I'd approach people though and immediately start speaking german, but they'd come back at me with english :( .... I must have a honkey accent with my german, need to work on that.

I swear I learn more german in a week there than I'd learned in all 4 years of high school. If you can swing it, get your ass over there and sprechen viel. You'll be a pro in no time.

When I was in Paris the first time (25 years ago....) I had to manage with Spanish cause I couldn't any French. Now it was much easier, cause there's loads of French words loaned into Swedish and I've learned a few words and frases (and the French have learnt loads of English compared to earlier...).
I still haven't started learning Dutch tho, that's one of my goals...

1) Ohja joh? (Oh, really?)
2) Zooo, ech' wel! (Yeah, totally)

Specially the 'joh' is something I never hear outside Rotterdam. It basically means 'really?/is that true?'.

the best way is just to hear the word said over and over again. there might be some site online that has audible utterances.

I was just thinking about learning German. I am planning a trip next year to visit my brother in law.

I can speak almost fluent French...how hard to learn German?

Also, do you have to go for Oktoberfest or just a tourist trap?

I'm really glad Rammstein is in German. I really like Rammstein, and if it was in English I'd be embarrassed to listen to it/sing along. I know what a lot of it means cause of the internets, but it still doesn't have the same effect as if it were in my language. In my 101 class one of the first verbs we learned was spiel. I got much amusement out of that. Spiel ein Spiel mit mir.
