I realise I could just put this in my other thread but hey, this ain't about the set-list reported by the Sun etc anymore!!
Anywho just got back from Wembley. The Beasties were fucking rocking. The crowd was filled out for them, and whilst there were probably better all round movements/receptions for Foo Fighters and the beginning of the Black Eyed Peas set - as well as Madonna of course - you got the feeling with the Beasties that they were standing right out.
Little pretentious crap about saving the world, they just came on and rocked it. MMM did a little intro after Russel Brown had introduced the band, all in their smart suits - looking like they rightfully owned the place! - then straight into Sure Shot.
The only problem was that Mike's mic wasn't working and MCA's wasn't either, but this was sorted by the end of the song. It maybe diffused the audience's take off a little as obviously Mike drops the first verse, and whilst the crowd wasn't all going mad or anything the general all round appreciation could be felt. And also, there were little gaps, whereas for most of the other bands I ntocied it was far easier to move about. As I said, it was filled out for the boys.
The energy was great, Adrock on fire (definitely pleased his mic was working from the off!) but really they just looked and played in that unique Beasties way which just oozes so much fucking cool!! Call me a kiss-arse, don't give a toss, cos they were shit hot!
Yauch had made an appearence earlier in Spinal Taps set, and seemed to have a slight 'WTF' look on his face which I found the funniest part. ANyway back to the set and So What'Cha Want was fired out - same beats as Letterman - and again was just fucking quality. Whilst it was a shame they were on for a little amount of time it meant they could just rip through some classics, no breaks in between just non-stop flow, as Intergalactic followed.
MMM was cutting it up as usual, but really it was just so cool to see my favourite band playing a rather lovely and huge stadium, on a bill which was just made for them to stand-out a little. As I said, they rocked it big time in my opinion. I must say though, Metallica also did pretty good for themselves!
Anyway, this has been such a rambling, incoherant review...I'm knackered though and am just flooding out my thoughts. Will try and be a little more concise tomorrow and remeber some more, finer details. Oooh and just quickly they had to cut their set becasue it was all running late. They weren't the only one's to. And also, not to be a prick, but thank god I was there because it sounds like the BBC haven't done our boys justice...
A very pleased dave.
edit: and by the way, this performance should hopefully be released in it's entirety as all this Live earth stuff is being put out on DVD, but that's no guarentee I guess. Still, would have loved to have seen all the footage on telly, the cunts!
