View Full Version : I hear there's a lack of peanut butter in Europe

My brother said when he was in England and craving a PB&J, they didn't have any peanut butter to the places he went! The closest he could get was a $10 jar of peanut butter, which tasted more like butter and less like peanuts he said.

My other friend who backpacked through Europe said he had the same problem.

What's the deal?

Supposedly Australians particularly think the stuff is awful.

Guess you'd just have to learn to grind your own. (y)

I can't think why this happened to them, we have it everywhere, smooth and chunky kinds, all different makes. Some places do put it odd sections though, not always with the jam, sometimes with the Marmite and the like.

Not here, we have sugary, salty, crunchy and creamy. I heard about a low applejuice supply.

We have plenty of peanut butter over here, in a bunch of different types.
There's the dutch one, which is creamy, a bit salty and really tastes of peanuts. And there's the american type, which is much sweeter and smoother, mostly eaten by children.
I really prefer the dutch version. It's yummy.

It's not a problem to get peanut butter here in London. I can't speak for the rest of Europe.

on a related note: I gave my daughter peanut butter for the first time last week. HILARITY ENSUED. You will have to take my word for that.

I only had it for the first time last summer. It was much saltier than I expected (sunpat crunchy)

You can get peanut butter here as well, loads of different brands, smooth or crunchy...
I ain't that keen on it, it sticks on the palate and it's too oily as well. Sometimes I feel really unhealthy and put some of the crunchy one, usually on toasted plain white bread (when I go unhealthy I go all the way...)

wow! I feel like I can really stretch out and relax in this thread full of people who are not so fond of or totally indifferent to peanut butter. ahhhhh.

I hate peanut butter, at least the processed kind. blech. just the smell of it makes me want to barf. natural is alright, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it.

Peanut butter is readily available and consumed by the tons in Australia!! However the peanut butter & jelly (which is rightly called jam here.... crazy americans) sandwich doesn't exist. I know I've never had one.

One of my favorite things to do with my cocker spaniel. Feed him peanut butter and watch for 5 minutes.

And Parkey, I have no idea where he was, or where he was looking, but he said when he finally did find it, it tasted odd. American peanut butter is apparently much sweeter than what he had.
