Sorry if this has been discussed already and I just missed it, but does anyone else think it'd be awesome if they put out a disc of all the tracks that they are now redoing with live instruments? (ie So What'cha Want during the Gala Event shows as somsone just posted a video of one of them on youtube) I don't mean a live show cd of course, but rather them doing studio recordings of all the songs again, but with the instruments instead. Granted, I realize they are apparently getting back in the studio soon to start working on the next album after this tour ends, and I wouldn't want this in place of a fresh new album, but maybe even just an EP of a few tracks like So What'cha Want, Root Down, (Paul Revere? haha) etc. in the mean time. Thoughts?

I'd buy that for a dollar. (y)

As fun as it is that they've reworked them for a live format, i don't think any re-recording of any of these tracks would come close to the originals. that said, i definitely dig that they're taking a new approach to them in their live shows.

Until proven wrong, I look at the Beastie Boys as a finite quantity nowadays. If they record anything, it's only chewing into what remains in them as far as that last mindblowing release goes. So with that in mind, I'd rather they didn't record anything but new shit. Like they care, though. :D

I have no idea how you could possibly be "proven wrong", or what that's even supposed to mean,
but I'd say they're more likely to record for another 20 years, than not.
Although the hectic touring schedule may take it's toll in time. I've seen heavy touring ruin many great voices and relationships of great bands.

The only reason a project like this wouldn't happen is because as much as the hardcore fan would love an album like this, the casual fan might just see it as repackaging the same old songs.

The b/f and I have been discussing the "live" album that they will put out after TMU entitled A Gala Event...

Makes no sense. I'm not a casual fan, and it would still clearly be repackaging old songs.

A live album is a must, however.

I raised this exact same idea a month or 2 back, though no one took much interest!!

I'd love them to do that because albeit old songs they're bringing something new to them & re-working them. Would be great as an E.P. or even a 2nd bonus CD on the next album, a Ltd edition type thing, that way wouldnt be seen as just crass re-packaging of old material.

Anyway, isnt releasing a "greatest hits" just re-packaging old material? ALL bands (or their labels at least) do that - think Solid Gold Hits or Sounds of Science, or even The In Sounds From Way Out!

Every opportunity for bonus discs has been overlooked.

They should definately do it, why put all that effort into putting the instrumental arrangments together & then not recording them? Yeah, I know they're doing them live but such reworkings are best recorded in a studio for prosperity I say!! Do it, do it, DO IT!!
