Hi all . . . I just felt the NYC Gala Event deserved its very own anticipation thread, cause I'm starting to get giddy. So let's tawk.

Who's going?
What are you wearing?
Where are your seats?
Anyone traveling great distances and/or making big sacrifices?
Additional thoughts/comments?

I'll begin. I'm shirking three (yes 3) work-related commitments to travel to this event in my hometown (where I no longer live). It feels fabulous to be that bad-ass. We fly in for less than 24 hours and my darling parents are putting us up should we decide to sleep at all. We have GA on the floor. I'm thinking I may go a sort of Audrey in Funny Face route in the wardrobe dept, maybe cigarette pants . . . then again I may go with a cocktail dress but I'm afraid I'll feel like I'm at a wedding when I start to dance. (You know, that wedding / bar mitzvah phenomenon of white girls dancing to hip hop in dresses? Thoughts on that from other gala events?!) Anyway, I'm psyched as hell and would love to hear who else is gearing up for this night!

Share your NYC gala story . . .

I JUST got my ticket (from Ticketmaster) after much hand-wringing and anticipation! I am so stoked, I know it's gonna be legendary. I'm coming all the way from Northwestern-ish Canada to see the Beasties in NYC. I figured, I love New York, and I love the Beasties, so why not combine two of my favourite things?

My ticket is on the floor. Aghhhhhhhh I'm so excited!

I can't wait to see the B-Boys in their hometown. I'm traveling from Allentown PA (about an hour and a half away). This is the first concert I'm going to in which I'm going alone, however...none of my friends wanted to go. I got a floor ticket and I'll be wearing my dark blue suit with sky blue button up...fairly fresh

showing up for all NY shows, i consider the gala event at hammerstein ballroom as the highlight gig of all 3 shows, travelling 3.800 miles (from europe) just me, myself and i, got a GA floor ticket, might not dress to impress and i really hope/wish Nathaniel Hornblower is ready for "awesome, i fucking shot that AGAIN" .... request: "jimmy james"

I'm only going from DC to NY, and will be at McCarren Park and Hammerstein. I'll be solo at Hammerstein. I did the US/Europe trip (went to Paris on vacation) and was on my own at Bataclan, but I wasn't really on my own because I hung out with the message board people and watched the whole show with Documad.

It's a cool way to be at a show -- you're there with fans who become friends, as opposed to with friends who just go for live music.

i'll pack my suit and my tie, don't mind if it's getting that hot as in Berlin one month ago.

What's up people?

I posted to the thread about dress to impress and wanted to paste it here too because I'd like some feedback about it...

I am stressin about dressin' to impress

First, I am completely ignorant about all this and it's my first B-Boys show, so forgive me. I've been into them for years and in fact, it was The In Sound From The Way Out that got me started. So I'm psyched about the "instrumental" show.

Second, for those who have been one of these kinds of shows what do they mean about dressing to impress? Is it funky stuff like polyester suits or plaid (as in The Bosstones type stuff)?

Third, I don't own anything like that and I can't see myself going out to buy something I'll only wear once. I have one suit that I wear to weddings and funerals. It's black, it's boring and I don't think it fits. I also have a tux but it's quite normal (no bow tie or anything)

Help????????? What do I wear???????? Ideas??????? word.

Thanks to the iTunes thing I was able to get tickets (figured buying the album a third time (and still planning to buy it on vinyl) was better than paying a scalper.. at least there was a bonus track!) so I'll see you cats on the 10th! :)

redever69, I can tell you that at MSG in 2004, some people wore costumes or other funky get-ups like you described, some people dressed up, and plenty did neither. I think the band just wants to make things celebratory and invite people to be festive and have fun with it. It's unfortunate though that some people may feel pressure to buy a new outfit they may not be able to afford. Maybe keeping in mind what they put in one of their emails, "... or whatever you feel good in" will put your mind at ease? Have fun!

I hear there is suppose to be a huge roundtable press conference before this show. What could that be about?

Interesting... Where'd you hear about this? Seems a bit late to be doing a press conference.

Beastie Boys encourage fans-as well as media attending the on-site media roundtable/press conferences currently being scheduled in select markets--to bring old mobile phones, PDAs and related accessories to the shows, where they can be collected at on-site recycling booths. For more info on Beastie Boys cellular recycling efforts, visit the Reverb site,or on cellular recycling in general, visit collectivegood.com.
