View Full Version : Dress to Impress nonsense

I'm not big on rants, but the whole "Dress to Impress" thing is really starting to annoy me. All of the advertisements for this tour make a huge point of emphasizing this. I guess I just miss the point. Why is it important? What does attire have to do with anything? I've never heard of a group having a dress code for its concerts, and this just seems way too uptight for the Beasties. I'd rather be comfortable than make a fashion statement. I mean, really, are we going to a concert or a prep school?

I went to the show at Red Rocks a couple of summers back, and the band made an issue of it while on stage, even going so far as to ridicule a fan who was wearing (gasp!) Birckenstocks. How pretentious!

Is this a concert or a fucking fashion show? I mean, who cares what you wear to a show? Do I really need to go get my tuxedo cleaned to go to an ampitheater or club? What's the logic behind this? I wish the Bboys would just knock that shit off already.

the funny thing about it, is that when you go to a concert the audience is in the dark, you can't see much of the people's clothing and i personally like to concentrate on my ears rather than my eyes.

I wore a hat anyway, it was a good occasion to wear it, I also had sunglasses but i didn't wear them for long, I couldn't see shit, lol, that was stupid:D

wandering in the bataclan like a blind girl...I could get second row like that indeed! :D

I agree with you hipster. I didn't think it was funny in 2004, and it's really not funny now. Maybe if they keep it up for a few more years it will eventually become funny? :p

the kids seem to get a kick out of it. gives them an actual reason to dress up for a change. some even go out of there way to look like Larry from three's company, it makes them feel good. let them have their fun, it's not like the band has bouncers at the door sending you away for wearing 4 striped Adidas.

those of you who think it's dumb or nonsense probably don't ever dress up for Halloween either...

where's your sense of fun? the beastie boys are all about fun.

i, for one, look forward to dressing up. perhaps if more of the european crowds dressed up, there would be less of a chance of injury since most people wouldn't want to wrinkle or tear their dry clean only clothes...

don't you people get tired of doing the same thing every day? do you have no sense for adventure? that's what this is all about. quit your moaning and groaning and check into a nursing home if you live life so frigid...

dressing up is way more fun, everyone acts different, you don't have to be yourselve, there's more crazyness to it.

Well, I, for one, do like like to have fun but i am stressin about dressin'

First, I am completely ignorant about all this and it's my first B-Boys show, so forgive me. I've been into them for years and in fact, it was The In Sound From The Way Out that got me started. So I'm psyched about the "instrumental" show.

Second, for those who have been one of these kinds of shows what do they mean about dressing to impress? Is it funky stuff like polyester suits or plaid (as in The Bosstones type stuff)?

Third, I don't own anything like that and I can't see myself going out to buy something I'll only wear once. I have one suit that I wear to weddings and funerals. It's black, it's boring and I don't think it fits. I also have a tux but it's quite normal (no bow tie or anything)

Help?????????

I think they are trying to get people to just dress up in general. Look like you're out for a night on the town, classy. I think they are trying to make it like the old school dinner clubs.

Brixton isn't a gala event. Roundhouse is.

this is the spirit... the whole semantics of gala event vs. non-gala event is kind of silly...

if you want to dress up, then dress up! nobody is enforcing anything and nobody is judging anybody else...

yes, if you dress up to any concert, you are more than likely going to be in the minority, but when its all said and done you will be remembered for looking like a pimp..

and for the record

THE REGULAR SHOW is, well you know how we do, hip hop, hardcore, instrumental, weird hippie spaced out rock jams... all that type of stuff. These shows are for the average meathead, so you don't have to dress up, though we encourage you to.

LOL @ "hipster" frontin like he's above all this "attire".

Aren't hipsters those little douchebags with the skinny jeans and the black eye make-up,
and their entire lives revolve around listening to, and wearing the right bands' shirt.

Get a haircut and put on a shirt with a collar for the show.

I treated the whole case rather seriously and a thought about bodyguards kicking out people wearing casual clothes went through my mind... It was funny to wear a tie, a hat and so on... It was the dorks who acted like it was Woodstock or Mudstock which were the only problem. I mean it's not quite a pogo-suit, this whole G. Event attire.

I'm crossing my fingers for you all -- hoping that you will have some air conditioning at your venues. I blame the little kids for this August tour.
