I don't know how I feel about this, but wanted to share. I just get very protective of my favorites, I feel like it ruins the original. What do you's think?

if you look at the description on that youtube page it says adam horowitz and rick rubin

and the remix makes an even bigger shout out to the boys with the way he starts the song by saying "heres a little story, i got to tell" then after that the lyrics go down hill

It's a bit ironic considering the Beastie Boys helped contribute to the development of sampling as an independent aesthetic by jocking tons of old records, but I still kind of know what you mean. Nevertheless, if everyone were that protective over their favorites, nothing would be available for samplers and producers.

Actually, I think the song's alright. I know a lot of people on this message board are uncomfortable with hip hop that's too "urban" (yeah, you know what I mean), but the song's not too bad. Not groundbreaking, but decent enough.

The Paul Revere beat is so classic it just doesn't matter anymore. Everyone samples it for shit or has some freestyle they've done over it at this point. It'll always be remembered for the original version....
that guy is kinda crispy though.... NOT

I like that coz it's dancing, not the same "trip" from the original but it's not so bad... I mean, I won't listen to this song as I will listen to Paul's revere but the purpose is not the same, even if the sample is... Well, I feel open for this, yeah!

I like the song -- fun, anthemy lingo song. For what it's worth, for me that backwards cymbal sound gets used so much it's not even screaming "Paul Revere" to me anymore. It's like the pimp siren sound -- anybody's game at this point.

Plus sooooo much more is going on in Paul Revere, right? RR was so frikkin good. IS, I should say!

I'm uncomfortable with hip-hop that focuses on nothing but image...the whole song is about shoes, wallets, clothes, and jewelry... if that is urban, then , yes, I'm incredibly uncomfortable with what I just heard...

especially lines like this:

check tha dictionary, I'm tha fly definition.
stones so clear, they in High-Definition.

chain on my wallet and my shoes iz rediculious
whoeva did yo woredrobe, you dudes look rediculious

does that not make you cringe? the WHOLE SONG IS ABOUT HIS WARDROBE

Come on everybody let's show some love . . . we can laugh at a guy on the lam for shoving a wiffle ball bat up some girl's coochie but we have no sense of humor about Kia Shine flaunting some bling?

Laugh a little!

If you compare this Krispy crap song to the B Boys its like comparing polyester to fine silk. You cant beat the lyrics of the B Boys, they have so much meaning especially if you grew up in NYC like I did.

Whoah! Easy now . . . I wasn't comparing the quality of the lyrics exactly . . . I was just making a point about how song topics in hip hop must often be taken with a grain of salt and a sense of humor. You know. As in not too seriously?

I did grow up in NYC too, in fact. I agree this can add to appreciation of the Beastie Boys.

Peace.

I think if you really stop and re-listen to the lyrics to "Paul Revere" you might have an epiphany and realize... "That's pretty dumb too." It's just some funny shit that has become classic (would you be defending it to the teeth if it came out right now?), really not too much higher caliber than some guy talking about his 'floss factor™.' I just listen to this and get a chuckle; it's funny! Kids love to be crispy; nothing new there. "Fly blue rental," anyone? Just get a laugh out of it, it's not Dickens or Vonnegut.

If you were around at the time of the release of 'Licensed to Ill" you might remember hearing lots of complaining about "how bad music has become," but we loved it anyway... And I still do - both the old hip-hop as well as checking for the new stuff like this.

^^^It's funny how much credit people give the Beastie Boys. At least they don't take themselves as seriously as the fans tend to.

Here's a little story I'd like to tell,,,,,,,,,,

I think it is on par with Vonnegut.

That song is awful...haha..I agree with most of the posters who replied to it as L-A-M-E. So many great songs I have listened to for the first time...since joining and Paul Revere is one of my favorites I like so many, it's very hard to choose if I had to choose only song to listen to.

I checked out every video on the site, I wish they made a video for this song, it'd be even more awesome.
