in a few days im having my first gyno visit ever in my life (if my period doesnt ruin it before) so is it ok to go there bald? or would he come up with some smartass advices like "THE fur makes the vagina a safer place." blah blah or would he just think "EACH to their own" ? (not that you can read his mind) and i doubt that gynos are all the same but what are your experiences like?
would a landing strip be better? that would be like selling my pubic hairstyle's soul only to make mister pussy doctor happy
and is it better to wear pants or a dress? (getting my boobs checked too i think) and if pants then i guess i should wear a long top, right?
got any other tips for me?
this feels like im getting ready for my first date well you know it's been like 20 years since someone last saw my vagina
time to become a woman!

meh, i shave it all, and they've never given me any smartass comment. i always worry about what they're thinking though. i considered growing it all back out specifically for going to the doc, but that would take a fucking long time.
i've seen three different vag doctors, the first was ok, the second was absolutely horrible, and the third was good.
the second one actually made me freak out and cry, and so then while she was jamming her fingers up me she was like "why are you crying. do you always do that when someone touches you? have you been sexually assaulted? i can refer you to the counselling center." and i kept telling her no i hadnt, i just didnt like the doctor, and she kept persisting, like she was trying to convince me i'd been raped while she was groping me, which only made me more upset and cry more. and then one of her assistants came in the room while i was crying and my privates were exposed. i went back to my room and skipped all my classes and pretty much cried all morning and slept the rest of the day.
but yeah. most doctors arent like that, im sure. i'll just have to keep paying more to NOT go to the student health center, because they're aweful.
she also basically forced me to get some kind of test for some kind of STD i knew there was no way i could possibly have... i think it was gonnoreah or something. i hadn't been having sex... but she woudlnt take her scary metal thing out of me and kept saying how everyone should get it done. so i finally let her in order to put my pants back on. it cost $30 extra.
i dont think it matters what you wear, to answer that question, they always have me strip and put on a paper gown.
i hope my story didnt worry you. im sure the vast majority of them are great. i just happened to find the 1 in a million psycho sadistic bitch. of course, years of working in a college health clinic on retarded college sluts who come in and are like "OMG i dont know HOW i coud have gotten pregnant and syphylis"
fucking college kids

wouldn't a female gyno be less akward?

here at least a male gyno has to have a female in the room with him while performing the examination. i don't know why people freak out about it, it's really not that bad. sure it's cold and not the most pleasant thing in the world, but just relax. they've seen it all. doesn't matter what you wear or what your pubes are like.
wtf putting her fingers in you? they're not really supposed to do that anymore, they're supposed to use tools...well maybe once or twice i've had that, they're just feeling for abnormalities i guess.
Whether you choose to go bald or bushy won't matter any. Dentist is to teeth, as gyno is to vaginas, so.. They see 'em every day!
Personally, whenever I have a set appointment, I try my best not to mess with hair. It's like a little eco-system down there, y'know? I don't want them to mistake common irritation from shaving for something else, and then go blowing it all out of proportion and scaring the crap out of me saying, like, "Ooh, looks as if you might have a little rash..." No, asshole. I bought a cheap-o razor at the dollar store and got bored while in the tub last night.

ive always had them put their fingers in. the stick two fingers in and mash up while they push down on your belly. its like to feel your uterus or something. or maybe i just have an irresistible vagina and they dont do that with everyone.

I do brazilian and only one gyno said "oh what interesting art you have there" then told me how she knew some women that WOULD make shapes out of it hahaha. Then she also said I'm really fertile and if I were to get off the pill I'd have a lot of children (at that point I wanted her to stop talking).
I don't think it matters what hair-do you have. As others have said, it's their job, they see many and that means a lot of variety. Not going to be a big deal.
As far as the rest, I've always had to remove all clothing (mine also check the breasts for cancer and will go through how to check yourself every month) and wear the gown they provide. So what you wear doesn't matter I think. Then they use that tool (sometimes the nice ones will warm it up first) they use to open you up to check the cervix and take swab. I once had a metal one and that one kind of hurt, but lately they have used plastic ones and they use lube and it's fine. I have had them use their fingers (with glove of course) and then push down on my stomach and they ask if there is pain. I think that's to check for cysts but I'm not 100% sure.
In a nutshell: just relax. :)

it was a bittersweet thing to hear. I don't want kids, yet. But later that would be nice haha.
Hmm if you really do have a problem with even tampons be sure to mention that before the doctor does the exam so maybe they can use extra lube or something else that will make it more comfortable.

i had a friend with a really tiny opening that tampons coudlnt go in and they preformed surgery. basically anesthetized her and popped her cherry. i'm not sure why they would do that unless it was like, all the way closed, but im pretty sure it wasnt.

My sister still has this same problem, and broke her cherry falling out of a tree when she was 11, so...
I know the doctor suggested that they insert something into her vagina to stretch out the opening a bit. No surgery required.

it's really not so bad, ggirl. i think it helps that the doc is pretty nonchalant about it. like, if a normal person saw your cooch they'd be like "omg vag!" but it's just normal everyday business for the gyno. the last one i went to was fantastic. the bad experience i had got me spooked and i actually went off the pill for awhile cause my prescription ran out and i was scared to go back, but really i need to be on it. so i found this clinic that i got the feeling was more for pregnant ladies, but they were happy to give me my pap smear and all. the doctor was really nice and gentle and since my previous doctor was so horrible, i really appreciated her bedside manner and all.
but look at it this way, I'M saying it's not that bad, and i'm pretty insane. like, i really wanna date people/get laid, but the thought of someone looking at/touching my body freaks me out too much. so if i can deal with the gyno, im sure anyone can.

Wait, quick question. I'm really ignorant on the subject so bear with me, please. If you're not sexually active then there really isn't too big of a need to go?
I live in the middle of nowhere about and hour and a half away from Charlotte, it's the best know place I can think of that someone might know. Why do you ask? :)

I believe you're supposed to start getting pap smears when you become sexually active or when you turn 21, whichever comes first. That is what my doctor told me when I was 18, but I wasn't sexually active at the time.

you can have problems unrelated to sex. the pap smear checks for possible cervix cancer. you can have numerous hormonal or other problems. some girls have unbearably painful period cramps, you'd need to go for something like that.
i first started taking birth control because i WAS sexually active, and since i've just found that it's nice. i have very irregular periods when i'm not on it. sometime's i'll get them every month... or every other month... i think i once went 6 months or thereabouts without one, which isnt good. and then when you go for so long without, you kinda forget to expect it and when it starts you're totally unprepared. also, when i would finally get it, it would last for longer that normal i think. the fact that the pills render me infertile is a plus. hopefully one day i'll have sex, and then i will be prepared.
i asked becaue i myself am in NC, raleigh, and was just curious

i just went to a new gyno today - the old place i was going to just kept giving me the nurse practitioner and i wasn't satisfied with the care she was giving me. anyway, this doc was great and gave me some good, honest answers.
it's not that big of a deal. and you really, really need to go, so don't get freaked about it. it's important to find a doctor/clinic with whom you feel comfortable - i've seen a handful of different gynos over the years (moving etc.) and never hesitate to pack up my vagina to a different doc if i'm the least bit unsure about something or feel my questions haven't been answered.

My cramps were worse when I was on the pill, but I wasn't bloated, so that was nice. And they still weren't debilitatingly painful, so I could deal with a bit more discomfort. And yeah, no babies was nice.
Not that you were talking about the pill, just figured I'd quote you since you mentioned cramps and stuff.

Not necessarily. Obviously an individual could have a bad reaction to it, but the same is true for any medication. It's horrible for some, it's a life saver for others. And for most people it's neither, just makes life a bit easier.

it wasnt so bad
first got asked a few questions, answered everything with a no
if i was sexually active NO if i use tampons NO so he knew he had to be extra carefully with me
pants and undies down, taking a sit on the 2nd worst chair after the electric one and he got a smear cotton bud into me which hurt a bit (no way possible he would have ever gotten fingers into me) and he said my pussy looks normal and checked my boobs and didnt find anything besides boobage
my vag felt weird/runny afterwards
and there wasnt a nurse or whatever in the same room

i think it will never happen but if i ever have sex then i want to make sure that the other person doesnt catch anything from me
and i had a bad infection a while ago and im worried that im not fertile because of that shit so ill take meds (if needed) before it is definitely too late
