I just listened to Electrify, and I like it. Nice laid back mix. One thing is driving me nuts though... did you use any samples to make the track? It may sound dumb, but for some reason I got a slowed down Axel F Beverly Hills Cop Type Vibe. Anyone else understand what I am talking about?

I think Triple S is ok, but there are a lot of the same synth sounds as the Electrify track. This mix (just an opinion) is a little too long in the end. If I have to pick, overall I like the first mix better (maybe just because I heard it first), but the second is not bad at all.

Just an ASR Test 2

Yes!!!! now we are talkin'. Tight, short, high energy, ON TIME (not that the others weren't). I love the percussion and the drum rolls along with the funky keyboards. This sounds like something the Beasties may have put out themselves (like a gala event arrangement). My favorite by tons.(y)(y)

The Move Remix

I think this one is pretty good too. I seems like on the 1rst, 2nd, & 4th tracks you used similar sounds and patterns... I think the standout track was the Just A Test remix.

P.s. I could be wrong, but I think you will get much more feedback if you make the tracks available for DL. REALLY nice work on Just A Test.:)

Hi,

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. I think you are right on pretty much all counts. I'll just add some comments to your comments quickly...

Just an ASR Test was as it appears, a quick test of the ASR. It features drum loops by a mate of mine Matt Bray, which give it a certain funk quality that the others don't have. I used the loops to speed up the creation process rather than creating everything from scratch. Also, I used some of my more "organic" sounds on that one. I pulled up more Beasties emulation sounds if you like. Indeed the sound of that is probably more like "what I normally do" so in a sense I'm glad you liked that one the best, even though my ego did have to take a slight battering as it wasn't something which (beastie's aside) I created single handedly (because of the drum loops).

The others, as you pointed out, were based around the same sound set. They were a bit of a rush job, and I'm working on my newly aquired ASR-10
which I am still awaiting sound disks in the mail for. They were made for a party which I was told would involve a lot of "Industrial / Electro / Hardcore / yada yada" stuff, and hence I steered a little away from emulating the Beasties mixes and started going the hack on resonance filters and electronic sounds. I do think they work, however they do sound a little "same-ish" for mine, partly because they were all done in a single week, and yes, Triple S may be a little long, however the rap itself is quite long, and I became a fan of the Transwave bit I put in so I felt it was worth repeating a little. ;o) I have also noticed that the bass lines seem to lag in these three also. The bass is coming of a Juno 60 sequenced from the ASR and I can only assume that the MIDI in the Juno 60 (which is a non-standard feature) has some latency to it. This may relate to your "It's on time" comment regarding Just A Test.

And I do plan to make them available to download on beastiemixes.com shortly. I just want to finish the polishing process and hence was hoping to get comments first as to how people think they are sounding so that the final "release" version is up to scratch.

Thanks heaps for the comments.

Anyone else have comments?

Cheers,
Dr Scnauberg.

[quote=bigfatlove06;1493406] did you use any samples to make the track?

By the way, no, there's no samples in the track. Well, it was done on a sampling synth, so it uses samples, but no sampled parts from other tunes, which seems to be the question.

Cheers,
Dr Schnauberg.

Electrify:
Excellent groove. Not a huge fan of synth mixes, but i got into it. i think the difference between hitting synth mixes and missing synth mixes (as far as my likes go) is the hitting ones don't overdo it. You left it simple, yet encapsulating. Good work.

Triple Touble:
Kinda sounded a little like electrify...still, all the same things apply. The bridge was awesome.

Just a Test:
CRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!! Fucking "A", this is a mix that all mixers need to hear. On point - in mood AND beat. That's all i can say.

The Move:
My favorite Beastie song of all time...thus hard to critique. Excellent grove...fucking hitting. Just a little to repetitive in the percussion? Phrased as a question, as I am no expert.

Over all?

Thanks Bobarat. Nice feedback, and thank you for your thumbs up.

More to come, in different styles, but I'm waiting on a sound disk.

I think I know the bit you mean in Triple S. I was particularly happy with that bit when I came up with it. Transwaves are the shit! :o)

More to come... and with any luck the final edits will be downloadable on beastiemixes.com over the weekend at some point.

Cheers,
Kim.
