it sounds hurried. like money mark's fingers are struggling to keep up. of course he isnt really struggling because he can play the instrument, but they should slow it down a bit.

probably never heard it

I like the creative twist they put on the live Gala version. Nothing beats the original or what MMM can do with it. But yeah, it's a nice twist.

it could be better

Kid Presentable

They should stop doing it.

they should slow it down and play it on a lower octave. also, a mellotron would be more appropriate

Kid Presentable

it's two instruments. it sounds too stripped back.

they should get a flutist to come out and do that and flute loop with them.

the keyboards could do some background chording. $ mark could do the piano parts on flute loop? and effin slow shit down!

No. That's one of a few things that I don't like about this tour.

i guess i can't really comment until i've heard it live. i heard a recording of song for the man off this tour, it sounds all slow and gloomy. much better than in 98/99. real pleasant surprise.

but yeah, the sure shot thing not as much.

I love the instrumental version of sure shot! it's a nice change.

I have been listiening to bootlegs for 5 years now and sure shot was getting boring for me, I like how they throw the instruments in there, I also like do it and what cha want with the instruments

i really like the sydney 99 version of sure shot

i think it must sound weird to hear it over the internet for the first time vs. hearing it live for the first time. i love it, but got to hear it at sasquatch, so the personal experience of that makes it awesome.

I gotta say I never expected sure shot to be played live with the organ.

That being said, I really don't care much for it.

I do however like the root down get it with the live instruments, but thats more like a cover song rather than the IC style root down

I like it. Its great for the Gala shows. When I saw them at Sasquatch it was the one song where they could jump around the stage holding their mics and martini glasses and not have to hold an instrument. Its just fun.

I think it's nice with some changes, it sounds more fresh this way.

I'm kinda feeling this way about the Gala Event in whole. I'm hoping that's how it is, anyway. We'll see in a week.

change is good. whether the new version is aesthetically "better" or not, it's still something different than we're used to, as opposed to the boring, usual mmm treatment. not that the normal version sucks live, but it's been outplayed at this point.

whatever it takes for them to feel creatively satisfied and full of energy is what's up.(y) if i wanted to hear it just like the cd that bad i'd listen to the cd. i go to the show to see something different. something i'm familiar with, but in a new light.

Don't come out with that one. I don't want to hear what's on the C.D at all. Way to be patronizing.

I'm just a sourpuss I guess. Lucky I'm in the minority.

Yeah, I've seen it on youtube a number of times, and heard 4 recordings of it. I like that they're fucking around and doing strange and wonderful new things. But it's the hip-hop cut. Why not do it to The Move or something?

I heard it live and I didn't care for it. I don't care for the new CD either, so I'm going to have to part ways with a lot of you loyal fans.

ANYTIME you get to see the Beasties in a small venue, it's an event. The Beasties are clearly enjoying the club shows. I'm sure you will all have a great time. I can't wait to hear what the US crowds think of the instrumental songs -- whether they fidget, talk, or behave. The French audience was terrific.

I agree French audience was the best.

I'm not into the new cd either but I have to say that the songs sound much better live. And I agree with Doc that it is a great opportunity to see the band in a small venues.

I don't have any special impression of Sure Shot but I like instrumental versions of Do It and Jimmy James. And it's great to hear Live at Pjs and Maestro.(y)
