Happy 40th birthday, Phil.

Me, I dunno. Might be from Big Lebowski or even Mission Impossible III. I'll never forget that shot of him being stoic under, uh, pressure.

Lester Bangs in Almost Famous and also Dan Mahowny in Owning Mahowny - the film that made me feel terrified about the idea of serious gambling

I love love love Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I agree with Mission Impossible III. Capote was (y) I also liked him in Boogie Nights and Almost Famous.

the creepiest role of them all- as Allen in Todd Solondz' Happiness

Boogie Nights in second and Next Stop Wonderland in third

You guys might be right about Almost Famous. I can't believe I forgot that one.

I also loved the call to the delivery market in Magnolia. He halting asks for racier and racier magazines, and his delighted naughtiness when he realizes they do indeed have and deliver Hustler, etc.

let's not forget his classic portayal as "random storm chaser guy #4" in the 1996 hit film TWISTER.

LOL I italicized it to indicate wind blowing.

DUSTY!! He had all the best lines.

"He's gonna rue the day he came up against The Extreme, baby. Bill, I'm talkin' imminent rueage"

I did check on IMDB for that one. I don't make a habit of memorising lines from Twister :o

Love, Liza

and the one where he's a transvestite saving money for sex change (I think it was Robert de Niro playing his homo-phobic neighbour and finally becoming his best friend). Maybe I should IMDB for the title...
Flawless (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0155711/).

and I still haven't seen Capote...

Love Liza was good. I remember him sniffing gasoline like a madman. He carried that Indie film. He also carried the Indie-- Owning Mahoney. He was great in Capote (although Toby Jones beat his Capote in the film Infamous) but Scottie from Boogie Nights is still my favorite.

I think Almost Famous and Ripley are probably the two best so far. Probably Ripley, though.

In no particular order:

Boogie Nights
Punch-Drunk Love
Almost Famous
Lebowski
and.....Along Came Polly. I don't care what anyone says, but he was really good in that.

I cannot make it clear enough of how much I hate Tom Cruise, but my sig other wanted to watch MI 3, and I couldn't believe how much I liked him in that role. First, I couldn't see him playing a hard-ass and I thought I would constantly start thinking of his cameo in the Pale Force cartoon that Jim Gaffigan always shows when he's on Conan. I was pleasantly surprised.

ripley is my favourite although i did like his turn in red dragon.

i can't forgive him tho for getting me to see a play he directed (he begged me to go, how could i resist??), some of the horrible details of which are forever etched in my brain. :(

Lester Bangs. I didn't think anyone could play that role without pissing me off, but he did it.

P.S. See the director's cut if you haven't already.

I can't help but notice you spelled Seymour wrong in the title and I can't even read the posts because I just keep staring at Srymour.

Yeah, I know. I cringe each time I see that.

The Spelling Nazi gets his comeuppance.

Almost Famous. (y)

He dances to Iggy and the Stooges (for a few seconds) in a very Lesterish way.

At least, it looks right when you see it.
