shit shit shit shit shit
i had priority registration for this semester because i joined a peer educator program (looks good on my resume, long story) and thought i totally got all the classes i wanted weeks and weeks before anybody else could even register. and these are mega requirements for my major that i have to take NOW before i can move on. so i thought i was set.
today when checking on how much in student loans i was going to apply to my account, i noticed i had no outstanding charges. wtf, i should have to pay for classes. so i go to my class schedule, and it shows no classes for fall. WHAT THE FUCK. i go back to "enroll in a class" and it turns out i had stopped at step 1 of 3, CHOOSING classes, because with the old registration system there was only ONE STEP and they just switched over to a whole new website and I AM COMPLETELY FUCKED :( :( :(
When does your semester start? Is it to late to pick anything at all?

it starts in a little over a month. i've emailed/called all the professors and am waitlisted for one of the classes. at this point, i seriously think i'm totally screwed. i actually wouldn't mind taking a semester off, but that would mean no financial help from my mom, no insurance, being utterly completely totally fucked oh god :(

going to the registrars offices works. it can turn into a whole day affair but persistence is the only thing that works with these lazy fuckers, wear em down. or get used to hold music. just keep dialing zero!

the classes i need are upper division requirements that are very major-specific, and my major is super competitive and always full of people trying to get into these courses. there's seriously nothing else i can do now except wait. i've done everything i can, the only thing now i can do is hate myself forever

don't assume things before you've exhausted all the options, it'll just serve to make you more upset and spazzed out. with situations like these there are always wee avenues to skip round them, don't worry. wait til a few responses start trickling back to you and then gauge your situation then. /supportive academic hugs.

i swear showing up and crying can be really effective. im serious. i've gotten the unthinkable done in registrars office by everything short of crying: pleading, being nice and basically appealing to the heart strings. you wouldnt believe it if i told you. it can't hurt to try.
their stupid rules can all be broken if the right people want to.

sorry to hear that cosmo. the internet sure has cocked up things! in my day this couldn't have happened... and if it did it wouldn't be your fault, you could blame someone else and they'd HAVE to sort it out for you!!
i'm sure things will sort themselves out. hugs and nachos (are they vegan?)

That is my biggest fear, net to being told that I'm sort alot of "invisble" units. Damn that made my heart race a bit...Colleges, for all their hype, need to get their shit together better.
stay up and have faith. Go holla at a counsler to see if theres anything around this.
Yeah, I'd definitely try to take care of this in person and if it's the same result, maybe try to talk to the professors and see if you could possibly get an independent study.

My mom and I both cried the registrar's office. They have no idea how to handle that.
I don't suppose there is night school or another location or independent study for the classes you need?
I hope that some of your classmates drop out.

sometimes I still have nightmares that I didn't really graduate and I'm required to go back and take classes...which would be a pain since my school is a few states away. Luckily it is only a nightmare.
That sucks so much Cosmo. I also hope that you find a way to work this out.

the registar can't do anything, it's all up to the individual professors if they can let me into their classes or not. and of the classes that actually HAVE professors assigned to them, half are part-time and unavailable until fall. stupid underfunded understaffed school system stupid me. sigh. oh well. i'm okay now. i just had to have a mini-meltdown i suppose. it's funny, i can see myself a few years from now looking back on this and thinking "imagine how differently things would have turned out if i had taken all those classes i was supposed to that semester." hopefully i'll be laughing.

That sounds awful, cosmo. Too bad the college website didn't have some auto-generated thing it sends to your e-mail, like, "NOTICE that you still haven't completed the registration you started. Click here to continue!"
Heck, a site I shop at has that if I leave stuff in the cart and don't complete the order.
Anyway, hopefully this all works out. Maybe a door was supposed to open elsewhere for this semester, like you said.
Laugh now -- why not? (y)

Yeah, try getting on waitlists, and show up the first days to those classes. Usually after the first day at least 6-8 people who were taking the course get scared off and drop it, leaving room open for other people. At least, that's how UMD worked, and some of my classes were pretty hard to get into (think 15-person seminars). Most college students are lazy and not persistent, so if you're aggressive about it, I'm sure you can still get in.
Good luck!
