well i've got a question,
i'm fucking sick of trying to find some good melodic metal, the only that i can stand is in flames, but the thing is i'm looking for mmetal that has no depressing hatred lyrics in it, i just want the instruments....is there such a thing?

i dunno if you'd call 'em "metal" exactly but apocalyptica is pretty cool. basically they play metallica songs (mostly), only there's a violin and maybe some other classical instruments in there. also there are no vocals.

also, by "cool" i meant "nerdy" but metal's pretty nerdy anyways

I like Black Label Society. I think Zakk has some positivity in his writing.

mastodon

there's lyrics and shit but they're incomprehensible so it doesn't matter if they're depressing. in fact i hate the vocalist but the instrumentation is nuts.

True to that but under some strange influences, the vocals all of the sudden start to make sense and very comprehendable.

I believe they've got that shit mastered

you beat me to it. i'm pretty much obsessed with mastodon now. a lot of shit off Remission has an instrumentals feel to it then all of a sudden they start bellowing, like turd says, incomprehensible.... and i love 'em for it.

all 3 of em (except for the drummer) share vocals although their bassist is the key-forward. i love 'em man.

So you want no lyrics at all? Just instrumentals?

yeah, if thats possible i'd love it, most of the music that I can find that is metal.. all the lyrics I usually find doesn't get me all hyped up and seems so lower my mood, but without it it makes me extremely energized, like malevolent creation>manic demise..even though it has lyrics.

It really depends on what kind of metal you're looking for. I could probably recommended tons of death metal, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.
I would recommend Mastodon, as well, though.

One band I would say is worth checking out in any case is Between the Buried and Me. They are all amazingly talented musicians.

See, I always wonder wonder what Bon Jovi would have been like if Jon hadn't grown up a frustrated cowboy, but rather an astronaut or landscape gardener.
Could have been a whole lot more interesting with a loaded leaf blower on his back as opposed to a six-string.

Exodus are the shit and Rob Dukes is Law

They put out Tempo of the Damned as a band. Then the whole page was ripped from it's seams: Leaving all but one~Gary Holt. Gary wrote the greatest thrash LP to grace ears in years~ Named Shovel Headed Killing Machine~With a Title like that You know it means Business. He single handedly created a fucking spot on Band: Bringing in members from Slayer and Heathen

The new LP is shaping up to be a 2 CD Monster

And, of course, there's DDP for those not in the know

dragonforce is pretty nerdy but to be honest most metal is really pretty nerdy. i like dragonforce because they don't really try to hide their nerdiness behind a mask of corpses. i mean they call themselves "dragonforce" for god's sake

not as much as i respect rhapsody (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Mqm-ystzPGY) though...these guys are like...nerd metal (ie metal) incarnate

their videos feature LARPing for god's sake

doesn't get much nerdier than that
