My teeth a generally fine but where I had braces when I was younger, the roots were really agressively pulled so below the gum, they're almost diagonal. And I had them put on too young which had made my upper jaw really narrow and had resulted in what my dentist called 'the highest bridge' he's ever seen! 'Cathedral roof high' were his exact words! :medical marval/freak:

Anyways, I have to have a wisdom tooth taken out because it's impacting one of my back teeth, which due to my jaw and overbite, is one of the few teeth that actually touch top and bottom when I close my mouth (It's almost impossibe for me to bite open things like sachets of wasabi and sellotape)

So he was explaining about how he's going to sedate me, then inject painkillers in the gum, cut open the gum to expose the wisdom tooth, cut the top of the tooth then pull the root out. And I am crazy, but I am very much looking forward to it.

I am sure I'll be in agony for days afterwards. But I am looking quite excited about it.

(p.s. my teeth actually look quite normal, I just have a small mouth and to non-dentists, I am not some freaky case study)

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out a year ago. The job was so big that they put me into hospital and i went under general. The surgeon later told me that it was the most difficult wisdom teeth job he had ever done. The teeth were buried in my jaw so much that they broke my jaw in 3 places getting them out. they also severed then corterised a nerve accidently so I lost all feeling to half of my face, the feeling only came back about 2 weeks later. (luckily!!)

But don't let that scare ya

Hey Mike did it hurt afterwards? I have to go to a surgeon to get it done. I'm putting it off for another year.

Yeah my jaw was broken in 3 places and my mouth was full of stitches, no, it didn't hurt a bit

I was taking 8 panadeine forte a day and they did nothing. They then put me onto endone, which was a bit better.

I couldn't eat any solids for 8 days. I had to sleep on my back whith my head propped up, otherwise blood would run into my lungs.

The shape of my jaw resembled a shoebox. I didnt have a neck for 2 weeks.

Having said all that I'm still glad I got it done, I got far less headaches after they were pulled out, and feel generally more relaxed. You'd be surprised how much your wisdom teeth contribute to your general feeling of shittiness.

I feel mine trying to control me. The pricks.

Some monarch died from the roots of one of her wisdom teeth strangling her over 10 years, back in the 16th century I think. Mine are keen on doing that. They've seen me read it, and agree it sounds like a good idea.

My problems are obviously the cost, but it's more of a time cost. I only get about 7 weeks a year (twice a year) where I can work full-time and make some loot. Obviously one of those times is around Chrimbo, so I need to work. When I'm not working full-time, I need to be at uni. I'm riding a decent average, and I'm being careful about it at every step. Can't lose any time there, either.

They don't hurt a great deal, one of them has started falling apart, though.:(

In terms of difficulty he put it at 7/10 but I'm sure it'll be fine. Last time I was sedated, I actually fell completely asleep so in a way, I hope it'll be the same. Though I do remember a school friend with massive bruises on her chest from where the doctor was kneeling on her chest to yank out an awkward wisdom. He promised he wouldn't do that to me though which is a relief. I'm not bothered about it too much though now. Probably poop my pants on the day.

Getting your wisdom teeth out kinda sucks because you look like a chipmunk afterwards. I got 3 of mine out at the same time...the last one is up in my sinus cavity and they said it would start to descend at around age 25, if at all. It could just chill up there, whatever. No biggie.

I just hope it stays up there, because I hate dental operations.

i had all 4 of my wisdom teef removed last year. i'm glad i did it all at once, because i really can't manage to take much more time off from school than a week. ohh, it was awful. honestly the worst pain i've ever experienced. i wish i had done it earlier, because one of them was coming in completely sideways and rotting the molar next to it. that was really painful. the weird thing was one of them descended completely without growing a root. the dentist said it was really unusual and he had never seen it before. though it was nice because i had my sweet boyfriend taking care of me (he tells me i looked like a walrus because of the gauze coming out of my mouth and my puffy cheeks), the whole puking up blood for two days part was not so fun.

they gave me a bunch of vicodin, but i really didn't like the way it made me feel. the comedown was worse than the pain, so i stuck to a bunch of ibuprofen and that got me through it.

im fine with most dental procedures. ive had... i cant even remember how many cavities filled. some of them were in deciduous teeth so i cant just count my fillings, and some of the fililngs are so small they are hard to see, but i want to say pretty much all of my molars, and the back of one of my front teeth. i've also had two root canals, none of that bothered me a bit. but apparently my wisdom teeth are impacted. the dentist wants them out, but the surgery scares the shit out of me, and they aren't bothering me as of yet, so im happy to let them stay. well, one is definetly impacted, i dont know about the rest. we just happened to find something like this (http://www.umanitoba.ca/outreach/wisdomtooth/Impaction1.gif) in the xray for one of my root canals

I had all four wisdom teeth pulled at once; two were impacted sideways.

Really, I don't remember a whole lot of discomfort at all, before or after. It was something that showed up on X-rays during my first visit in umpteen years, so I had it done all at once. Some pain meds afterward which my friends and I abused, certainly not out of necessity. All in all, the blood came off the pillow cases, so it was a really good experience. (y)

if you're sedated you'll be fine.

i had halazion sist thing on my bottom eyelid in year seven and all i got was local anesthetic, i could see him coming at my eye with the scalpal and everything. not only that the first dose og local had no effect so i had to be given a second i wore a patch over my eye for the rest of the day, and the left side of my face was paralyzed for sevral hours.

so you''ll be fine.
seiously it might hurt afterwards but the procedure itslef will be a breeze.

Well, I discovered that I have zero tolerance for sedatives - within about 5 minutes of the dose, I was zonked out completely. I woke up twice during the procedure and the second time was when the stiches were going in so consequently I thought that I'd only be in there for about 5 minutes when in fact it was an hour. The walk home was hilarious because I was still completely high as a kite. It started to hurt a bit that night but mostly my ear ache. They gave me anti-biotics but nothing for the pain so was just self-medicating all weekend with paracetamol which wasn't hitting the pain at all. It wasn't so much my tooth or gums, but my ear is absolutely killing me. So yesterday I went to the doctor and she gave me a huge pack of Tramadol which has definely helped. I am working and feeling verrrrrryyyyy relaxed and painfree. Nothing is going to stress me out while I am on these bad boys.

I LOVE tramadol.

You don't have a care in the world when you're on them.
