This is Zemeckis' new one...the legend of Beowulf done via CGI-ing actors..stars Ray Winstone and Angelina Jolie...
I dont get this CGI-ing up filmed material....it just looks...fake? It looks like the cut scenes from a playstation game...whats worse is, even tho it looks really fake at the same time it looks really like the actors...so you wonder whats the point? Its ok if you really stylise it (A Scanner Darkly etc.) but this just looks computer-gamish..hopefully im wrong, but it looks like the visuals would be distracting...

nah i think you're exactly right. i mean, the visuals are impressive, they really do look exactly like the actors (truth is, it wasn't until about halfway through the trailer that i realized that it was CGI the entire time...i am drunk though), but you're right, what's the point of that? why not just have the actors? i can understand using CGI for action sequences that real people just can't do (although they kind of annoy me, i'm more impressed by seeing proper stunts pushed to their limits; see, the parkour scene in casino royale), but why have an entire movie in CGI? it's annoying.
also, i think making a movie out of beowulf is a terrible idea. i haven't read beowulf in forever (i think i read like half of it 9th grade), but my recollection is that it's not considered to be a great work because it's a good story, but just because it's one of the earliest works written in the english language that's still around (maybe the first?). the story itself is kind of lame by modern standards, i don't understand the point of making a big-budget movie out of it. as i recall, there's no real tension in the story. it's just beowulf constantly kicking ass. it goes something like;
norse people: oh god this grendel thing is killing us
beowulf: i'll come across the sea and handle it...FOR I AM BEOWULF
norse people: OH MY GOD that grendel thing just killed a bunch of our noblemen, help us beowulf
beowulf: i have just torn off its claws in my sleep...FOR I AM BEOWULF
he's never in any danger of losing, it's just boring and long and in english on paper for once

Movies like this won't last very long considering the quality of live action/CGI is beyond this style.
I have a hard time watching and getting into CGI humans, I wasn't a big fan of Shrek and the Final Fantasy movie, so I doubt I'll be seeing this.
it might be too early for a prediction, but I think it'll flop as well

Anyone seen Beowulf and Grendel from 2005? Is it good?
However, talking cookies, those are real. Those tasty little mother fuckers speak to me.
Do they go "eat me, eat me" just like the women you walk by do?

Yeah... but, I mean, I thought Polar Express would tank and it did really well.
I guess somebody needs to make the movies that challenge all the stages in between Activision and whatever real looking motion capture will look like, but in the meantime... I dunno. I'd release them as games, I guess, because they really look like games.
Hold up a stitch - did they jank the 28 Weeks Later theme song for this!? SONUVA. I liked that song.
I dunno, I think it could be good or just mediocre. Kind of like the cutscenes from video games that are just good enough to watch, but still leave you wanting to play the actual game instead. Let's hope it doesn't amount to that.

Yeah, they snagged it.
Every now and then, there's material from a particular movie that seems like 1) re-using a really really good theme and 2) maybe earning some money back toward a disappointing box office take?
I'm thinking of how often the Miller's Crossing theme got used, or Requiem for a Dream's.

Namco has done better CGI for Ridge Racer for god's sake.
