i honestly don't know which verison is the b-boy's. but i have heard of two other ways..... 1) malt liquor (like olde english) and oj. 2) malt liquor, rum, and oj.

around here the bars just settle on #1 but, they use any beer you pick and oj.

Yeah. The wikipedia article on the drink used to say that the b-boys version was different to the rum, vodka and oj one stating that they had malt liquir and oj. It now just says the vodka rum and oj one.

Although the wikipedia artcile for the song says its malt liquor and oj.

(yes i'm aware anyone can update wikipedia)

It's a pre-mixed drink. Used to be made by a company called Hublein's which was bought out by Club drinks. They do lots of different pre-mixed drinks.

The label says rum, vodka, and natural flavors. It's like a screwdriver with an extra little somthin'.

I gotta castle in Brooklyn...

When I was growing up the common understanding was that it was a fictional spanish fly type of drink. not unlike the funky cold medina. later, recipes were made up & given the name.

hmm. that wikipedia article has me convinced now: malt liquor and sunny d sounds so right. i guess we were a bunch of idiots as kids.
