quick back story:

moved to Austin back in 2001 and began attending the University of Texas studying film. Soon got fed up with film school.... like really began to despise how it worked. So I dropped out and started working in film. Lots of production assistant type shit. Eventually got a job with The Austin Film Society which is basically the only real film studio here. Soon, I began to hate Austin. It's like the city that never grew up. Maybe I just became stagnant. Nothing was leading anywhere.

Anywho, tomorrow I'm moving back to my home town and returning to school to study advertising. This is a big deal cuz a) I'm leaving everything about my life in Austin behind and b) I'm living at home initially to make this work financially.

The plan is to start at a community college and rebuild the ol GPA and then transfer into something bigger next year.

And I've come to terms somewhat with the idea that living at home at 24 might make me a big loser. But it feels good to have a goal and to be paying for school myself. Hopefully I'll come out the otherside as that new person I'd like to be.

living at home at 24 only makes you a loser if:

1) you dont have a full time job
2) you are not attending post-secondary training
3) you have no circumstances surrounding your situation which would cause it (illness, debt, etc)

I suppose you're right. And I am working full time in addition to school full time. In fact, my schedule for the fall only puts me actually at home at night to sleep and on weekends.

It'll probably not be anywhere near as bad as I assume. I just haven't lived at home for 6 years.

sounds like a good plan.

Are you giving up on film-making completely?

nah, not at all.

in fact I'm about to finish editing a new short film, I'm pretty deep into editing a big documentary project and a friend and I are writing a series of comedy shorts.

I chose to do the advertising thing cuz I feel like it is viable enough in the film arena while also being a legit degree on its own.

One of my fall classes is advanced digital video (y)

You have direction and economically it makes sense to be at home. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Anyone gives you shit about living at home, don't listen. They likely don't understand your personal situation or don't care, so what they have to say is most likely a waste of time.

Mr Filummms, best of luck to you! Feels good to be making changes huh? Who cares about living at home. Lately I've been looking at it as an opportunity to really hang out with my family which is what I've been doing. It's pretty cool.

um I would consider you in category 3 since you're saving up to move to NY, so thats a pretty valid circumstancial reason. Its not like you're just loafing with no plans.
