with the US tour starting tommorrow and stiil no anouncment of an opening act, i am forced to assume there will not be one. my question is why?
i'm sure, as always the beasties set will be well worth the ticket price, but i also feel for $50 (plus all the ticketmaster charges) we deserve an opening act. if that one dosen't convince ya, think about this, as the elder statesmen of hip-hop and our the 'star wars generations' music in general, the beastie should be putting someone on. they have helped catipulit other bands careers in the past by having them open on a national tour like this one. The roots for instance, no one in colorado (where i live) had heard of the roots before beasties boys brought them along on the quadaphonic stero tour. now the roots are one of my states favs.
wishing for an opening act.....:o

:confused:Did you call me strange! :eek:Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I'm gonna get you Nic!!!
Ha ha just kidding, I could care.;)
Yea, I do want an opener, I want to be turned on to something that is fresh and is endorsed by the Beastie Boys. I mean they want to re-release TMU with newer artists, that they are into adding guest vocals over their intrusmentals. So introduce me to one of these pick as an opening act!(y)

...and when your having dinner at Outback all you want is the steak, fuck the bread and the salad right! If you learn to love then you might love life and I've got an open mind, why don't you all come inside!!
Oh and P.S. - The Beastie got put on by being opening acts for Run DMC and Maddonna, so everyone that posting up all tough about how they don't want an openers, you all need to check your head!:D

i went to see a Tool tribute band (Schism) a few days ago, and they said they were opening at the hammerstein show. i also noticed the info was on their myspace page (myspace.com/toolbandnyc). kinda a strange choice for an opening act....
but, if you like Tool, you'll love it because they played pretty much the perfect setlist. (stinkfist, 46&2 lateralus, parabola, eulogy, h, jimmy, pushit, jerkoff, cold and ugly, etc)

Point is...I aint bitching about paying $50 and only get to see them for that money!! If you want to see and band, do you seriously only go and see them if they have an opener? No..of course not. Comparing seeing your fav band and having a steak with salad is just plain stupid.

Hey everybody, you want to fight for your right to party right? I mean, what you give is what you get, and some dumb cop gave me 2 tickets already so I got to lighten up and keep my root down. Whatcha want? An opening band? Alright hear this, how about you open up your ears and clean out your eyes to some new musicians like Dr. Lee PHD. I mean, I don't understand why the fuck everybody gotta quote Beastie Boys lyrics and songs everytime they're talking about some unrelated shit? It could be people trying to say hey "I'm Down" or it guess it could be called gratitude but if this shit keeps up you're going to be looking down the barrel of a gun aka killing yourself with corney-ass references.

Okay, last time and then I done with this thread, because obviously it isn't progressing like I hoped. Why no opener was an innocent question, not a bitch. I would go see the beasties any time for whatever ticket-price they ask. I purely asked the question about why there is no opener because I though maybe one of the fans on this board knew why the beasties had made this decision. Since many of the BBMB users know alot more about the beasties then you (TAFKASB) or me.
I'm going to both Denver shows (1st nite row 17 at Red Rocks biiitch!).
Did you even see them on the euro tour last month, oh and if so who was the opener? So TAFKASB why no opener?(!)
...and for the Sir that doesn't like peeps quoting the boys
"Which rhyme ya want first the one about your mama":D

Ok, so I am going to the Boston show tonight. The show starts at 7:30...if there's no opener do you think they will go on stage close to that time? I figured they'd have an opener then they would go on around 9. I was hoping that since I don't know getting out of work, and fighting with traffic and all if I can make it there for 7:30 and I really don't want to miss any of the show.

I'm going to the Boston show tonight too, but now i don't know what time to go. If there is no opener (which is strange, but ok), they should theorhetically be on stage at 7:30. I don't know why on earth they would start that early, what gives?

"for tonight's Beastie Boys show there will be no opening act. Doors open at 6:30PM and the show starts at 7:30PM. Please plan accordingly."

I just read the original question and that was all..
My answer:
Why the hell would you want anyone else to perform? We got 2 (4 if you went to both shows) hours of the Beastie Boys... If their was an opening act, we would have gotten 80 minutes of Beastie Boys...
Think about it.. wiki wiki.. think about it...

Good point!
I normally don't mind opening acts, but I would much rather have two solid hours of the boys.

Kev G is the smartest man to read this thread yet!
Dude, if the reason that the Beasties decided not to have an opener is so that they could play a longer set, then that all I needed to hear!
WORD!
What show did you just see that was 2 hours of Beasties? I wasn't estimating two hours from the set lists I've seen, but I wasn't at any of the east coast shows and it sounds like you went to both a Gala and a regular Ol' Meathead show.

the Traveling Wilburys actually opened for them in Philly, they had holograms of Roy Orbinson and George Harrison, it looked really cool reflecting off the disco ball. Like I said in an earlier thread this was sans Bob Dylan but he did have R.L. Wilbury aka his Jakob Dylan in his place. Jeff Lyne and Tom Petty got the party started. Tom even did a solo song and changed the lyrics Beastie style and this is verbatim "oh my my oh hell yes, gala event tomorrow, better put on a party dress". Oh Jakob covered his dad's song "Neighborhood Bully" and dedicated it to the meathead that got kicked out before the Beastie Boys started, ya know the guy that said his dick doesn't stink or something.

Boston Pavillion said 7:30 start....boys went on 8:35.
