SPOILER AHOY

Isn't Ford still pissy because he says he and Ridley agreed that Deckard wasn't a replicant, but Ridley continues to maintain that Deckard was intended to be all along? That's what I've read, anyway. The impression I get is that Ford feels like Ridley duped him.

In the link that Gareth posted there's a clip from the documentary, and it has Ford in it.

New footage of Ford or older stuff?

I can't remember if it was a BR documentary where I saw Ford griping about that, or if it was something I read in an interview somewhere. I used to have a "making of Blade Runner" book -- maybe it came from that.

Ford looks old, so it's at least not from when they made the movie.

Is the book Future Noir? I have it but I haven't read it in a long time.

Future Noir... might be right. Trade paperback, black background, maybe a taxi still on the cover? I'll look.

It was all right, as I recall, but nothing hugely special, like the "making of Big Lebowski" book or anything. (Seriously -- that one's GREAT.)

The title sounds right, but neither cover I see looks right, so I don't know if that's what I read or not. I've seen that one, so I might be Brundlefly-ing two memories.

I don't get these special editions that are put in metal tins/briefcases/plastic female genitalia etc. Where the fuck are you supposed to put them when you've watched them once and don't have any room on the shelf for them to gather dust on?

Correct forum, and I heartily agree with you, sir.

HD DVD and Blu-Ray will be in pretty normal boxes though.
Not that I have anything that plays those formats.

You should be even lucky they put that amount of exterior effort for such a set; what's wrong breaking that 4th wall for once? And if your even able to afford such a briefcase, why not a bigger place? =/

Originally I was planning on getting the regular DVD version of the Ultimate Briefcase; now that I own a PS3, Blu-Ray might not sound bad at all for once.

...try buying a Talking Heads boxed set.

Hell even the original issue of Speaking in Tongues was a bitch to shelve.

I think Blade Runner is one of the most over-rated films ever. It looks amazing and all, but the story seemed shallow and incomplete.

When it was over, i was just like "is that it?"

Are they going to explain why they left out all the stuff about pets?

I've seen the movie a few times and I still remember the book instead of the movie.

It's about time. I don't know how I could justify the 5 disc set price. Unicorn origami? Hmm.

You know, I read the whole post and I missed that. I don't suppose my library will buy this one so that I can borrow it. They buy the boxed sets on some super popular movies, but I don't know about Blade Runner.

I agree about the strange cases on DVD sets. Even the Simpsons ones are difficult to fit in the baskets in my closet.

...kind of cool, though, that the Simpsons folks figured that out and started offering two versions of packaging. (y)

they basically had to beacuse the geeks went bananas about the plastic head packs

one could even order "old" covers from a site;

"The website (and flyer inside the DVD set) is vaguely and humorously insulting to consumers who are "afraid of change" and are "anal-retentive nerds who want their DVD boxes to line up on the shelf."

For me, it's pragmatic. I've got some CD boxed sets that just don't fit on the shelves because of height, depth, etc. That means they get stuck somewhere else, no longer in order, and much more likely to get knocked or damaged blah blah blah.

As someone who used to sell the stuff, I can tell you the whole shipping/display process can get screwed, too.

It's cool, yeah, but at some point the whole form and function thing clears its throat, not amused.
