Adam,
I really appreciate that you took the time to dedicate "Gratitude" to my dearly departed beloved chocolate lab Macy. That was such a surreal moment. I sent a text message to the VirginFest text message screen thing saying thanks but I never saw it posted. I am not looking forward to returning to my empty apartment in Virginia Beach tomorrow and seeing her leash and collar. :(

If people are wondering, the background of that is me and my now estranged wife got her as a 6 week old puppy in 2000, but this year me and the wife separated after 10 years together, when I moved out in June, I purposely found an apartment that allowed dogs so I could bring Macy with me, I only get to see my daughter every other weekend so I knew I would not be so lonely there if I had my dog everday. She had just gotten used to our new routine in my apartment...what I hoped to be an infection around her neck turned out to be lymphoma and by last week it spread to both sides of her neck. The blessing is she was able to spend her last days in her old home while I was out of town, and she got to play with my toddler daughter and my ex-wife, also she could roam the yard without a leash. She was having trouble breathing on Friday, the vet confirmed there was nothing else to do. In fact, the vet cried when she put the injection in. It was best to remember her in peace then seeing her detoriate rapidly. I'd like to thank everyone that said I did the right thing. I am going to miss her terribly.

Thanks again Adam, it made my day to hear the dedication! I hope Bobby is doing well.

-Gratitude,

Dave B.

Terribly sorry about your dog. Losing a doggy is like losing a relative (n)

Wait, you mean they actually read this stuff? *embarrassed*

Very touching and sincere. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope it eases the pain that Adam acknowledged your loss. Many people understand the pain of loosing a loved pet. We are all human.

"People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life - - like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right? Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Sorry about Macy.

i read this awhile ago and found it today, kinda helps..she didn't die of old age though but it still applies.

"I remember bringing you home. You were so small and cuddly with your tiny paws and soft fur. You bounced around the room with eyes flashing and ears flopping. Once in awhile, you'd let out a little yelp just to let me know this was your territory.

Making a mess of the house and chewing on everything in sight became a passion and when I scolded you, you just put your head down and looked up at me with those innocent eyes as if to say: "I'm sorry, but I'll do it again as soon as you're not watching."

As you got older, you protected me by looking out the window and barking at everyone who walked by. When I had a tough day at work, you would be waiting for me with your tail wagging just to say, "Welcome home. I missed you." You never had a bad day, and I could always count on you to be there for me.

When I sat down to read the paper and watch TV, you would hop up on my lap looking for attention. You never asked for anything more than to have me pat your head so you could go to sleep with your head over my leg.

As you got older, you moved around more slowly. The one day, old age finally took its toll, and you couldn't stand on those wobbly legs anymore. I knelt down and patted you lying there, trying to make you young again. You just looked up at me as if to say you were old and tired and that after all these years of not asking for anything, you had to ask me for one favor.

With tears in my eyes, I drove you one last time to the vet. One last time you were lying next to me. For some strange reason you were able to stand up in the animal hospital--perhaps it was your sense of pride.

As the vet let you away, you stopped for an instant, turned your head and looked at me as if to say: "Thank you for taking care of me."

I thought: "No, thank YOU for taking care of ME."

so sorry to hear about Macy. I was at Virgin Festival and had not read your previous post until today. I wondered who Macy was, and was really touched by your story and what Adrock and the Beastie Boys did by deticating Gratitude to Macy.

How nice and of Adrock to dedicate that song for you. I lost a dog too a couple of years back and I still think of her sometimes, she was a real sweetheart of a dog.

Thanks AznAlice..it was a nice moment..I came across another video of it on youtube today but i'll spare everyone since most are tired of this thread.

I did receive her ashes today from my estranged wife...that's an argument waiting to happen...most people say I should get the ashes since it's written in the separation agreement that I was taking Macy. this is not a forum that i wish to discuss this in any further.

i had my daughter this weekend and she did look all around the apartment and call for Macy...she is too young to understand.
