'fucking hate' might be a bit strong for me, but yeah, they should write some songs, the proggy bastards.

Weird, I thought this just the other day.

I used to seriously hate them until I heard Dark Side of the Moon, I started to to like them after that. Although I have to admit some of their songs just are not for me.

I've got a strong emotional tie. I wouldn't have survived my teen years without them. I know that a lot of cool musicheads don't like them, but that somehow makes them even more special. By the way, Floyd ceased to exist when Roger Waters left so I don't count any of their later work.

What's funny is how many people like other prog rock or similar stuff but are too cool for Floyd. I go to shows all the time where a band sounds similar to Floyd and I know that I'd be beaten to death if I ever said it out loud. :p I'm drawn to bands that remind me of Floyd.

Oh for the love of God. No one "fucking hates" Pink Floyd. I'm sorry, Cosmo105, but you are wrong. In your defense, I suspect there's a trying break-up story or other negative association behind such a misguided statement. Don't allow it to kill your understanding of all that is Rock.

pink floyd is bangin 60% of the time.

Yep, that sums it up. I saw them live in Vancouver BC once in some giant indoor stadium. The show was wretched. The sound sucked and the special effects and lighting bored me to shit.

They do have some great albums though, specially backwards from "Wish You Were Here".

I really loved "Dark Side of the Rainbow (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7667000257414927973)".

nope, just can't stand listening to them. i suppose i respect them, it's just played out to me...eh, i guess most of it is hating people that are all about pink floyd. kind of like how i don't smoke weed because i hate potheads.

smoking weed is cool sometimes. I mean, its been probably 2 plus years...but its cool sometimes. Sometimes just being like "time to smoke weed" and smoking it.

the potheads i know have turned me off to it that much that i have no interest in trying it.

stop basing judgement strictly on a view of what type of person you feel is a representative of 5m0k1n w33d. The whole pot subculture black light alien poster with a joint in his mouth 420 bumper sticker reference pot every 12 seconds types are the same people who would brag about kegstands and getting lit if that was their drug of choice instead.

just go smoke a joint and listen to pink floyd

While you always gotta question those who are into Deerhoof, you also have to look out for those who can't tell the difference between "your" and "you're."

I can sort of understand getting annoyed by Pink Floyd, or definitely getting turned off my the misanthropic gobble Waters started spewing out.

But, seriously, Dark Side of the Moon is all kinds of awesome. It's so good it's really kind of Beyond Floyd, in a way. I noticed it again not that long ago when it was playing in a store where I was shopping, and, since it took me by surprise*, it gave it a fresh listen, and I was like, "Holy crap! -- that's really good!"

It is. It really is that good.

*On a related note, try watching It's a Wonderful Life in the summer. It's not as sticky sentimental as you might think you remember; it's a hard, hard, brutal movie for about 85% of it. It earns its tears in a big way.

I listened a lot to Dark Side Of The Moon when it came out (at the library), but after that, not at all. I tried to listen to it couple of years ago or so (there's some BRMC track that reminded me an awful lot of some track from DSITM), but it didn't sound as good as back in the day. I do prefer The Piper at the Gates of Dawn to any other Pink Floyd (actually everything else is just crap).

whilst pink floyd are indeed kinda puffy and blah in the main, they are occaisionally splendid, and when they arent being splendid, they are still mostly better then most things forced on us.

i like deerhoof and the asian girl from css is definately hot.

this is absurd.

this is something i'd expect from a twelve year-old.

right. syd barrett, david gilmour, rick wright, roger waters, and nick mason "suck". they are incapable of writing amazing music. they aren't great musicians. they haven't created new genres or rock, written music that's touched millions, they've done nothing worthwhile. they haven't had any overwhelming influence on rock music whatsoever. only bands that "suck" get ripped off by andrew lloyd webber.

yeah, and like, all people who listen to floyd smoke pot. yeah man, it's like, totally a pot-smoking hippie thing. such a compelling, balanced, well thought-out, mature conclusion. because hey, who needs all of those great bands who did so much for rock music, and made it possible for those little trendy zero-talent indie bands to do their thing.
