Tuxes to jeans was the dress code at the Boston Opera House show tonight. As usually, the Beasties rocked the house. They played a few songs off the new album, old punk stuff, Egg Raid, Jimmy James, most of their instrumental stuff and Sure Shot, Sabotage. It was fun to celebrate Adam's 43rd, they had a cake and everyone sang.. a good time.
See you all at the show tomorrow night...

Yes! It was a very fun evening. Tried to take a couple photos with the camera I smuggled in...managed to get a few before I got in trouble. It was great to see most of the crowd dressed up. I'm psyched I upgraded my seat to 3rd row pit. Was on MMM side. Rockin' show boys. So happy I didn't miss out on this fabulous gala event!
Happy b-day, Yauch!!
Bring on the Pavillion!

P.S.
Money Mark's little freak out/dance move during Heart Attack Man was fucking great! Wish I had his energy!!
the guy in front of me got in trouble for having a camera too, so don't worry, you weren't the only one
anyway yeah, that show rocked. my seat ended up being awesome, too. i pretty much lucked into it too, i can't feel too bad about that
except i was right below the upper level, and someone up there spilled beer on me a couple of times. i looked up and he was waving at me, maybe i knew him or maybe he just thought he was funny or something, i dunno, but i gave him a look of death and it didn't happen again.
show still ruled

i saw some people in shorts, but not many. i didn't see anyone wearing a tux - missed that completely....saw some guys wearing suits....the most memorable of which was a guy in a black suit with a black bowler hat.
they also played heart attack man....minus the funny intro to that song. great to see them play some punk.....whenever Mike D was coming to the front of the stage you knew some hardcore was coming.
did anyone make a playlist? it was incredible....loved the whole show and now want to go to more gala events. wish they would play DC.
it was nice when everyone sang happy birthday to yauch...hope his birthday was as much for him as it was for us!

great show, I was glad to see so many people dress up for it, i got there a little early and saw yauvhs parents take seats a couple rows ahead of me then some folks took them somewhere else
I think I saw a guy or two in tuxes, I was wearing a brown suit myself
fun night, cant wait for tomorrow
I was also stopped from snapping some shots with my camera, but no one seemed to stop people with camera phones, I dont understand the reasoning behind that.

I felt overdressed, I looked smooth as all getout and so did my girlfriend but there were plenty of fucking dorks there with shorts and trainers.
Set ranged from mind blowing to incredibly weak, bottoming out with my least favorite song "A Song For The Man", and far too much rapping for my liking.
On the upside, a completely bananas version of root down that made me smile, the best version of Ricky's Theme I've ever heard, and a really extended version of Lighten Up with a really sweet bossa nova freestyle from Ortiz.
Color me impressed, no pics though sorreeeessss.

Question... what is with the no photography at shows? The flash to the performers? Exclusive rights to the pictures said in a contract?!?

I don't get it. I didn't use a flash. Why can you take pics with your phone?? I went to see the Police last week and there were no issues with cameras.

I don't know why they let you use phones.. maybe because no flash?? I took pics and video with my phone. Not the best but some good memories at least.
If you have verizon pm me your number and I'll send some to you! : )

I was surprised at the Borgata show when a security guy came up and tapped me on the shoulder and told me no photographs or videos were allowed. So I said ok and put the camera away but took it out a little while later and taped some more.
Another awful thing happened at the Borgata show. Some guy right in front of me was smoking some herb. Several men, not sure if they were cops or security, came up to him and took him away!!! I've never, in all my years of going to shows, and I've been to thousands, seen anyone get in trouble for smoking weed. At best, he just got thrown out of the show. At worst, he got arrested. Seeing that happen to that poor guy almost ruined the night for me. I'm glad I didn't get busted 5 minutes before as I engaged in the organic refreshments right behind him!

Great show! That's definitely the best I've heard their instrumentals live. We had amazing seats too.
It was fun meeting everyone at the Red Hat pre-show...Nicole, Bob, SerialWaxKiller. Hope you all enjoyed the show as much as we did!! :)
About the camera thing...I think sometimes it's left up to the artists and not the venue. When I saw Guster at the Opera House a few months back, they did not check our bags for cameras...they're a band that's always cool with picture-taking anyway, it's almost always allowed at their shows. Of course venues can't keep people from bringing phones in, so I guess they can't rule out camera phones.
There was some buzz on this board awhile back regarding Adrock's epilepsy, and that flash photography has triggered his seizures before.
http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/archive/index.php/t-21795.html
I have no idea if that's THE reason photography is prohibited at their shows, I just remember that discussion.

This is the cover of "root down and do it" which, I believe, is the song the sample comes from.
Great show- I already put my 2 cents in another thread. (here (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=82073))

They also played "Groove Holmes". Sounded impromptu, where the song started with keyboardist just jamming, and the rest of the guys slowly fell into place. (And where Adam turned to MikeD and said something like "NOW would have been a good time to come in").
They didn't play Root Down.
for some reason i seem to remember them playing it, but they didn't rap. it was just the instrumentals.
maybe i dreamed it, but i could swear i remember hearing it

Pow was dope- they went into it from the end of lighten up without stopping- like an instrumental fade in- it was amazing!
I think Remote Control was the second song they played and 14 st Break was after that. Root down and get it is in there somewhere (I can't remember where exactly though). They had a big long banter before Suco de Tangerina about how it was all about Ricky Powell how they were chillin with him at his spot in Mexico and he inspired that song. They offered to explain it musically and then started playing. Very funny. I think with everyone elses 2 cents that is more or less a wrap on what was the too hot for t.v. Opera house Event. Word. Bring on NY:)

I think they said Suco de Tangerina was inspired by hanging out with Mario C. in Rio, I think? Somewhere in Brazil, I thought. Ricky's Theme was the one that they named after Ricky Powell. I liked the "we'll explain it to you musically" comment. (y)

they talked about ricky powell before ricky's theme....about his love for cats, summers, hanging out, stuff like that....very nice.
mario, visiting mario, rio, and mario's butler (money mark's comment) were the inspiration for suco de tangerina.
they also played something's got to give...and had the cool anti-war vids screening when they were playing the song.

the only disappointment for me what that the guy who left the message on their machine that opens the song "the maestro" was in the audience, or his brother or something, and that would have been a perfect time to play that song, but they didn't. I really wanted to hear it. but Live at PJs was great.
They weren't particularly tight all around, but they are always great.
I'm surprised that almost all of you guys confused "Song for the Man" with "I don't know". Understandable though cause the end of the chorus for SFTM is "I don't know". It's one of my favorite songs, but it didn't go so well live because there were no horns or production to make Ad Rock's voice sound even close to pleasant on it. still good though.
