^ indeed, let's hope but he does not seem fake at all, he seem solid and really true to his convictions. What i like is that he stand his ground with Bush , rare sighting nowadays. He will not let his country fall under their hegemony and i greatly admire that and also the fact that HE is really for the poor, the redistribution of the oil money to his people is awesome with all sort of benefices
for the community.

The world leaders should take a lesson from him and follow his foots steps.

He's going to end up betraying the very ideals he wants to represent. It happens.

that would be a disaster, if the ones that can make good changes in this world and are genuine and have the interest of the people turn out to be as evil as the others fuckers...i mean there is no more hopes then!

I think Chavez is solid like Castro , Morales, Guevara.

Chavez wants to change Venezuelan law so he can be re-elected and get a step closer to becoming the permanent ruler of the Venezuelans ala Castro and Cuba. Anyone can say what they want about Cuba and there remarkable healthcare and what Castro has done for the people of Cuba but Cubans to this day still risk their lives to get out of that country. That doesn't sound like a wonderful society to me and I can't see socializing Venezuela will help the poeple but will only hinder the voice of the people.

It would really only be fair to compare Cuba with Venezuela if Venezuela was suffering from a crippling decades-long overwhelmingly disparaging military trade embargo imposed by its naturally most influential trade prospect. Like Cuba is. The Cold War has never ended for Cuba. I don't think I'd like to live there either.

This is another headshaker for Chavez, for sure, but then it apparently still has to be submitted to a popular referendum. It will be interesting to see whether Venezuelans willingly choose to abandon term limits. A victory for Chavez would doubtless draw accusations of personality cultism and manipulative propagandism from the opposition while being trumpeted as an affirmation of popular confidence in the government - and his leadership thereof - by Chavez himself. Probably a little bit of truth to both. On the other hand, a vote against would surely be looked at as the growth of popular unease with Chavez' policies, and I certainly haven't heard of anything like that; quite to the contrary he seems as widely acclaimed as ever.

But the biggest mindfuck of all, of course, will be watching the Repubs shake fingers southward while Bush cozies up with Pervez Musharraf and shucks twenty billion in flashy new military hardware to the Saudis. Has it honestly been six years?

i'm not defending chavez' reported push for the removal of term limits but just wanted to point out one thing:

the few that do try to illegally emigrate out of cuba is miniscule in comparison to the number of mexicans and other latin american countries who are run under a capitalist system...you have to put things in proportion for it to make sense.

the news wont do that for you.
