i would imagine you would have to sit at your computer, hitting refresh at 9:59 local time, enter the password and hope to beat the scalpers and brokers buying 8 tickets at a time...
Good Luck to all!

The Riv holds about 2500 and it's listed as a Gala Event.
So...one would assume that another non-gala event show would be also scheduled in Chi-town. *fingers crossed

Do you suppose that someone's reading the board?
I had resigned myself to seeing no US shows this tour. Now I have to fret over this.
Congrats Chicago people.
P.S. Minneapolis has great small venues -- they could do a show here to pair with the Chicago one -- like they did with Philly and AC. They could play First Avenue for old times sake -- like Prince did. :P

Do what you gotta do to be at one of these shows Doc, they are in rare form and not to be missed.
The Gala Events were made with fans like you in mind, fans who've seen the greatest hits shows and are now interested in seeing the more funky shit.

Thanks Rob. I got to see them twice in June, so it's okay if I can't get to Chicago. I've gotten to the point where I wonder if I'm pressing my luck in the pit. I always say that I'm just going to hang in back and then I wind up down front. :p
I'm going to have to do some serious thinking and talk to my friends. I'm supposed to go to NYC around Oct. 1.
It sure would be fun to see a Beasties' show with Laver!

They haven't played First Avenue since CYH.

I heard about this on the WGN Morning News this morning (on the TV) at about 7am. I thought I was dreaming, but I guess not! Why did I have to hear it from the WGN dorks first - how did they get the info? Anyways, I was beginning to worry that they were not going to do a Chicago show. Yay for us!

Yeah I was at the "Chicago Secret Session"...they were advertising it all over Q101 and you had to be the nth caller. There's an old thread about it around here somewhere.
It was up on the 4th floor of the Metro.
Come on, Doc. You gotta make it to Chi.

Man, haven't posted on here in ages...
So long story short, I log on to Ticketmaster at 11:30ish and everything is fucking sold out. Sooo pissed. Want to kill my wishy-washy friend. If ANYBODY has extra tix or a lead on extra tix, if you could please PM me or something, I would very much appreciate it. I found some guy on Craigslist selling some for a somewhat reasonable price, which I will probably go for, but if I can get closer to face value that would be a nice perk.
Peace from MPLS

I got my ticket this morning, but I'm wondering if they only release a set amount of pre-sale tickets. That way when the rest of the "public" can buy tickets they aren't already sold out. Maybe there will be more tomorrow morning?

So what's the deal here with tix?
After my friends found hammerstein floor tix the day of the show for near to face value all over ebay . . . i'm not sure how much i want to stress over the fact that TM has no Riviera tix right now & i'm not sure i want to throw a hundo to ebay just yet. Then again, there were 3 shows in nyc & only one in chi.
So just wondering -- who has them, who's selling . . . who's waiting . . . and any word of a large-venue show here too? Thanks!

Has anyone actually been to this venue? I've seen online reviews saying the sound is shitty. But it hasn't been around too long and sound quality could vary by artist. Has anyone watched a show from the back of GA or from the seats?
So this is apparently the last show of this tour? Odd choice.

Ha...it used to be called Meigs Field (Chicago's downtown executive airport). Mayor Daley had it bulldozed overnight a few years ago. It was a big controversy for a while.

Not sure about the sound yet. Going to see Wu Tang & Nas there next Sunday so I'll let you know. Its a smaller outdoor venue (smaller than say Tinley Park or Alpine Valley), lots and lots of concerts have been held there this year though and I haven't heard many bad reviews.
One thing for those who do not make it in or want to spend the money- you can hear everything from outside the venue. If you want to be super close but not shell out the money for actual tickets- a tip is to buy the VIP parking, and tailgate and listen just as though you were inside..
Got tickets to the Riv, can't wait to get tickets to Northerly Island!!

I'd sure love to hear your review of the venue after your show. I'm not sure whether it's even possible for me to go myself yet, but I'm trying to talk friends into a road trip and it would be nice to know more. It's helpful to know that it's smaller than Alpine Valley because my friends have all gone there. I like the sound of a smaller outdoor venue. Anything's better than United Center, right?

I just want to recommend that anyone visiting Chicago for the show at the Riv should be sure to check out the Green Mill right across the street. Since moving here it's been one of my favorite places in Chi. Classic old Jazz venue, always amazing music and atmosphere. In my fantasy world, the B-Boys are planning a secret set there before their Gala Event. But even in reality . . . it's worth a trip!
Oh, ps. . . my friends tell me the recently unveiled Charter Pavillion is all blacktop and hard bleacher seats & they were sore as hell after 311. So wear comfy comfy shoes!! Just figured I'd toss that out there.

Husband went to see Wu Tang & Nas at Charter One last night and said it's a pretty good venue. Sound was good (although the engineer wasn't the greatest), and even at the back of the GA area you can see the stage. Apparently it slopes down so the back of the standing area is at a higher elevation & at eye level to the stage.
Also he said that the floor is just cement and there are no seats- seats are only up top. Seems like there isn't a bad seat in the house either.
Ask if you have any questions about Charter One!
CAN'T WAIT!!!

so, craigslist.com is a good place to go for Riv tix. i saw at least 10+ on there from 60-80 a piece.
dress to impress people, it's their last gala event.
and i will for sure be seeing folks at the Mill afterwards...
