im all packed up for moving so i cant find my astronomy notebook right now, but yeah. it has to do with the atmosphere. not that mars got burned up by the sun or anything like that.

oh yeah, and lots of stuff does in fact hit/go through our atmosphere. the reason earth isn't crater ridden like some other plantes/moons is because of our ongoing geological processes. some heavenly bodies dont have much in the way of weather or subduction zones to get rid of pesky crater holes.
