View Full Version : Does downloading affect the way you treat albums?

I only ask because a gang of older kids tricked me into downloading something, and when I first played it, it kinda made me go "meh" and I paid it very little mind. Upon listening to said album today, I found I enjoyed 5 tracks (out of 11) which is the minimum threshold for me to say I like an album.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is just wondering if people treat downloaded shit any differently to bought stuff, and vice versa? Do you find it easier to write off something you didn't buy?

My only experience with downloading albums resulted into fixing my hard drive...The only albums I've ever tried to download were albums I already knew that had been jacked, or ruined, or something. (ie pauls boutique)

I usually just disconnect my hard-drive and lay it down on the shelf.

I agree with this. I don't have enough whole burned albums to put them on the shelf with the rest of my cds.

People have given me whole albums on burned cd's i tend to neglect them. theyre not REAL albums their just burned cds. but once i have bought the actual album with the booklet. artwork on the cd and everything then i listen to them.

i buy a cd
i rip it
i put it on a used cd-r spool
i throw out the jewl case and booklet

the only time that cd get's used again is if i need to re-rip it.

I like something that's in a package, something tangible that i can hold and say "yeah i have an album." An mp3 is more of an idea of something, something that doesn't actually exist. Fuck, I wish I could explain this better.

If I really love a group or album then I will buy the CD. Otherwise I just use www.albumbase.com or something similar. In my opinion it's much better to download 20 albums a day and be constantly learning and appreciating new music than to go out and buy 2 or 3 albums in a week.

feel the same way. buying a cd is like i own this piece of hard work, a burned cd is like "eh, disposable".

Same here. I rarely ever buy new music on CD but when I do I like to feel like I got something since I'm not a download person.
